HI, basically since I updated to TB 78.2.2 it stopped receiving emails on IMAP Dovecot/postfix server (my own server) ... gmail etc still works

I tried to delete a pw of one account to reeenter it, but Thunderbird only shows “connected to dan@myserver.com” … but it does not download the new mails nor asks me to reenter the PW

any idea what this is? also tried in secure mode, add ons deactivated etc.

Ok so just updated Thunderbird to the latest version. Now not receiving emails. All the settings are correct. I have all my old emails just not receiving any new ones. I’m still receiving emails through to my iPhone so there is nothing wrong with the email server.

I tried removing an email address and re-adding it but now it won’t download any old messages and still won’t receive any new emails.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Version 78.2.2 is not working in IMAP. Somehow one person in my office had their Thunderbird auto update to Ver 78.2.2 and when it did, she was no longer able to send or receive emails. I had to do a system restore on her entire computer to roll back to a previous version. I accidentally updated mine to Ver 78.2.2 when I clicked "About" to find my version. But since mine is set-up as POP3 account, it did not disable my send/receive abilities. At least I believe that is why mine still worked after the update and hers did not.

Also, I completely dislike the folder tree on the left side of the screen. It used to have easy to recognize folder icons. Now all the folders are static outlines of a folder. And to make it worse, the folder icon is bolder than the text info, so those folder icons kind of glare at you. If you are going to minimize the folder appearance by removing the manila coloring, at least do not use a bold outline of a folder. Also, I would prefer when using the option to add a color to a folder that the color be a fill as they were in Ver68, rather than a stroke in Ver 78.

I've attached screen shots from two different computers so you can see the difference between the two version trees and appearance.

Additionally, I noticed at the bottom of the open email on Ver 78, this message: "Quick Reply is temporarily disabled due to needing rewriting for Thunderbird 68+."

I used to have a delete shortcut on the menu bar, when I try to add it from customize it is grayed out and not letting me use it.

It would be nice if I could roll back my version of Thunderbird to a previous one without having to do an entire system restore of my computer.

However, there are some things I like better, conversational view is great in that it shows what folders the rest of the conversation resides in. Some of the things I used to have to go to the task bar for are right there in the email, like source and header views. There might be other things that might make it more useful. Will know more as I use it for a few days/weeks.

Ever since the Version 78.2.2 update was inserted early on 9/16, I am no longer receiving any of my messages from my RCN host site. When I go directly to the RCN Webmail site, the messages from 9/16 to the present are there. They just aren't getting loaded into Thunderbird like they were before the update. I checked the settings and the "pop.rcn.com" entry is correct and there as before. Is anyone else having this issue?

I have been running on the older version of Thunderbird 68.12.0 for some time to wait for any extensions to be updated for the new coding standards. Yesterday, I got a message internally to upgrade Thunderbird, and, without any warning, it updated me to 78.2.2. It says on the website that this upgrade will not be made until a version comes out that handles the changes needed for the upgrade. Sure enough, while my emails seemed to be fine, two extensions were disabled. I first tried to uninstall and go back to 68.12.0. However, the earlier version indicated my profile had been upgraded and could no longer be used by that older version. I went back to 78.2.2.

I believe I have dealt with the issues. The two extensions that were disabled were TbSync and the related Provider for CalDAV and CardDAV. Those both did have a new version online. I ended up having to delete both plugins, then install the new versions clean, and then re-setup each to sync to my Google account. For a while I seemed to lose all my calendar entries. However, after the clean install and complete new setup, they seem to be working again, and I got my calendar entries back. My extension Xpunge was not disabled, but it stopped working. It did not even appear anywhere to call (it was listed under Extensions). I found a newer version of that, also. I downloaded it, and it upgraded to the newer version. When I found the settings, I had to redo them, but now that seems to be working. Two other extensions I had seem to already be versions that are compatible. I have my extensions set to automatically upgrade when new versions are available. I assume they did not upgrade before because the newer version compatible with 78.* is not compatible with 68.

I think I am OK for now. I am just responding here to bring attention to the fact that upgrades are being made even though they are not supposed to be, and others will likely need to do a lot of manual work to get back to where they were. I recall an earlier upgrade to Firefox, I believe, that I did not make until a version was offered that did all the sorting out of extensions as part of the upgrade. That went very smoothly. I assume Thunderbird plans to create a similar version at some point. However, some setting must be off, so upgrades are being made with that support. If there is anything else I need to do to manually adapt for the upgrade to 78.*, please let me know.

Thanks. I really do appreciate having a good alternative email and calendar like Thunderbird.

I have two Mac OS machines. On one it was easy, I clicked to update TB and it switched from 68 to 78 as a completely normal update, nothing special, and without any problem. Perfect.

However, on the other, I did exactly the same but all I get is the spinning baseball. I tried re-installing TB but still get the spinning baseball. I force quit TB and restarted but still get the spinning baseball. I left it spinning for half and hour and then was told that the app memory was full and that TB was not responding. So I currently have no access at all to any emails, stored or otherwise. And cannot access any menus or anything.

Complete disaster: any ideas how to save the day?

I have used Firefox for many years now and love it and keep telling my friends and colleagues to switch to this browser rather than Google Chrome.. There is something that happens irregularly with my 'pinned tabs', every now and again when I close Firefox the next time I open it up, they are all gone. I go through history and replace them and 'Pin' them and its all fine for a while then it happens again. Most recently - in the last two days it has happened twice, it takes some time for me to restore the tabs and pin them, then I have gone into 'Options' and I have set the box (ticked it) for 'Restore previous session' but its not happening. Also when I go to the 'three bars' up on the top ribbon on the far right the option to 'Restore previous session' simply isn't there! I have no idea what is happening but its very frustrating and I would really appreciate some answer as to what might possibly be going on? The lastest version of firefox for android just does not work on my phone, whats the last version of mobile firefox where i actually have the abillity to stop these updates. As of now i have to reinstall an old version every time i walk past an open wifi but i dont know how far back i have to go before i can disable updates.

Removing the abillity to stop updates is crippling if you have issues, this is a major oversight and it should never have been taken away.

I use Firefox on all my Android tablets, and I always want to use the desktop site version of web oages. The problem is that I have to manually set this every time I open - or reopen a web page.

I would really like to make this setting 'sticky', or to have a wsy to make it the default setting. Is there a way to do this? If not, this would be at the top of my feature request list.

Hi, I am using FF v80.0.1 on ubuntu 18.04.

I noticed that whenever a tab is loading there is now a static (non-spinning) icon. Previously it was spinning. I want it to spin.

In changelog for 80.0 it says:

> For users with reduced motion settings, we’ve reduced a number of animations such as tab loading to reduce motion for users with migraines and epilepsy.

Is there a way to disable this feature?

I have quite a few tabs open in Firefox on an old iMac that I keep open for research purposes. I do this instead of bookmark to save having to reopen them every time. When I migrate the old iMac to a new one, will Firefox remember those tabs and reopen them upon launch?

That's gone now. That feature isn't in any of the major competitors either. Vivaldi, Edge, Brave, Chrome. No setting for that. I'm very frustrated with that. What now?

Hello. I am having the same issue as another user, but they flagged their question as solved so I'm making a new one just in case.

I can't login properly to YouTube, only in Firefox, even after clearing cache and cookies and disabling add-ons/running safe mode. I can login to my Google account, view my playlists and recommended videos (although the main page with recommendations only shows 5 lines of videos and when scrolling further is not loading). I can't make any edits, for example add videos to the "Watch Later" playlist, that require a login. When I click login, Google shows the 405 error "The request method GET is inappropriate for the URL /youtubei/v1/browse/edit_playlist. That’s all we know." or with other URL, depending on the action taken.

What can I do? Thank you.

Hello, I have a problem with YouTube from my PC. I was already signed in my account and suddenly today I cant's see anywhere the option "Switch accounts" and "sing out" when I click on my picture up on the right edge. Also, even though I am singed in and I can see my picture on up on the right edge, at the same time I see on the left, the icon to sign in (it is under history) and I don't see my playlists. However if I click on "Library" (above history) on the new page I see my playlists. If I click on the sign in on the left side (under history) it shows me it shows me again to sign in (even though I had signed in before and I could see my picture on the top of the right corner), I click on my icon and I read: 405. That’s an error. The request method GET is inappropriate for the URL /youtubei/v1/guide. That’s all we know.

It seems like I am signed in, but at the same time not signed in. It's very strange and it has never happened to me. Firefox is updated. On my mobile I don't have any problem. I used Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge and I don't have any problem. Everything is OK there. Only with Firefox on PC I have this problem. I cleared the Cache and Cookies and restarted it, but the problem remains. I also turned off all my add-ons and it didn't fix the problem. What to do? Please, I need your help.

Hi,

Now when i click the address bar at the top I'm met with a Blank Screen whereas before the update I had my Top Sites "pinned" for quick & easy access. I now have to faff around going into the bookmarks which is pointless when this feature was working perfectly well, why remove it?

Also when i start Firefox fresh i see small icons for the top sites but they're so small the URL/Name doesn't show up so i have no idea which icons lead to which sites. These need to be bigger like post update and put back line they were before.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. This update is a massive fail, please revert ASAP.
