Firefox will not open

Firefox browser will not open. The FF icon is located in my taskbar (Windows 10). When I rest the mouse on this icon I see a very small representation of a website. When I click on the icon I see flash of some sorts on the desktop for about a nano second but the browser will not open.

I uninstalled FF and reinstalled. FF would open OK and I had no problems opening various websites. However, after I closed FF and attempted to open it up again it would not and so I am back to the original problem.

As I needed to access a website, I attempted to open Microsoft Edge and experienced the exact same problem. With the Microsoft Edge browser icon in the taskbar I can see a very small representation of a webpage but this browser will not open either.

Any assistance you can give me will be much appreciated, Con Van Dyk

Hi everyone,

Just got the news in my inbox that the Lockwise service would be merged fully with Firefox soon, implying the end of mobile apps support. An app that I found to be highly valuable even though quite simple feature-wise.

Now I'm wondering, will Firefox suggest passwords all over android like it used to be the case with Lockwise? Or will it simply be a browser feature, with no feature advantage compared to competing browsers?

While maintaining an app is hard work, these kind of services are what make Firefox such a great overall user experience Mozilla, please don't ditch them.

Thunderbird updated itself to 91.3.2 and has been acting weird since then. When starting, the window starts to disappear. I tried reinstalling, cleaning up the profile and disabling hardware acceleration, but the issue persists.

Dear Community,

I recently updated Firefox on my Gentoo system (Window Manager is Ratpoison). I had a shortcut <Ratpoison escape key>-F to open firefox. Before the update I used to press this combination again and another FF window comes up without any problems. Thus, I had 5-6 running FF windows on a normal working day, each with several tabs in it.

Since the update, when I use the same method, no new window appears but after a few seconds the message window comes up saying that the running instance is not responding and that FF could not be started. I know the problem with concurrent access of the profile. But, there was (and should be) the functionality that FF connects to a running instance and opens a new window in it. Unfortunately, I do not know how this works programmatically. I already installed dbus (and yes, I also started the dbus daemon) to ensure that this is not the reason - I usually do not use dbus in my setup.

Is there a way to reliably trigger the running instance to open a new window from my window manager? How does this "connection to a running instance" usually works? Why is it not working? What can I do to use it, are there any requirements needed?

I have a problem with thunderbird crashing every time I enter settings. Ver. 91.3.2 x64

When browsing emails it crashes occasionally, not a big deal, but every time I enter the settings menu it displays "not responding" and starts to "eat" RAM. Goes up to 4GB and makes my processor go to 100%. I can enter account settings with no problem and everything else. But not the settings. Tried even in safe mode - no change. This started to happen after 91.x.x update.

I have very important emails and data in thunderbird,and using it non-stop.

Can you please help me?

After installing additional language (en_US) my Thunderbird became unresponsive. After relaunch it became unresponsive again. I saved my profile dir, reinstalled Thunderbird, and after placing my old profile in place it became unresponsive again. So it appears my profile itself became broken. Can I recover only messages and filter settings from my profile without other configurations (which may cause that freezes) ? Or maybe delete only files with configurations from my profile to be replaced with default ones ?

Some of my contacts are not listed by the Ctrl+K search. For privacy concerns I will not use the right name here, but lets say I know a person called Johnny Smith. When I type 'John' in the Ctrl+K search field there is a long list of people, but the moment I get to 'Johnn' the list it empty. What is the problem? Why is he not found? I know for sure that he is one of my TB contacts. When I open the Address Book, type Ctrl+K and 'Johnny', he is displayed on the list. Does 'johnny' have to be part of the email address itself?

Hello - I've been unable to stream Twitch content on Firefox 94 for the last day or so, however, the issue impacts Youtube and Vimeo live feeds as well.

1. No outages in my area (Twitch works fine on my phone) 2. Tried Firefox in Troubleshoot mode (which disables all extensions) Twitch still broke. 3. Tried Incognito and Troubleshoot mode, Twitch still broke. 4. Cleared cookies and cache, plus Incognito and Troubleshoot mode, Twitch still broke. 5. Tried a different browser, Twitch works fine on Edge 6. I tried all of the above using a 4G Hotspot instead of my fibre connection, same issue

I’ve done some side by side testing of Edge and Firefox today, streaming the same content on each at the same time. Twitch runs fine on Edge. Twitch loads on Firefox and the chat looks fine. The chat arrives simultaneously on Edge and Firefox, it’s just the audio and video won’t play on Firefox. The audio and video don’t work on the ads either.

Watching a Youtube game stream side by side on both Edge and Firefox gives a slightly different result. Again, the chat feed is almost simultaneous, maybe a fraction faster on Firefox. However, while the audio and video run fine on both Edge and Firefox, there is a 15 second lag on Firefox. Both are playing full 1080 video.

So there is a definite issue with how Firefox is buffering audio/video content. The 15 second delay between the audio video stream and the chat I am seeing today with Youtube is what I was experiencing on Twitch over the weekend. I noticed it on streams that include a chat window on the video. I wasn’t overly concerned about the latency issue, as long as I had audio and video. Both of those stopped working for Twitch on Firefox yesterday. It could be that Twitch has slightly richer content than Youtube and that’s why Twitch isn’t working at all on Firefox?

OK, so I’ve installed the Twitch app for Windows and done some side by side testing with that. Interestingly, the app has a couple of seconds latency over Edge but it works fine. I shall use the app for now but would prefer to use Firefox if the buffering/streaming issues can be resolved.

Since the latest updates I am unable to send email using accounts I've had for 15+ years or so that Thunderbird is my primary email client. The 'Message Security' box tells me my foundational email address mtoddjr@gmail.com as the recipient is 'Not Found'. This is the same for several of my email address I have had for several years that are all used with Thunderbird. There is not a problem receiving email from these addresses. I see there was one solution with Norton, which I have also used for many years. I tried the steps related to disabling the software. This did not help. I was trying to forward an email to the above address. Also tried sending on another computer with the same result. What solutions are available to restore the functionality of Thunderbird? Appreciate any potential solutions. -Mike

With TB 91 (I think it started with TB 79 possibly, but I upgraded to 91 within a day) there is a bug with some of the fonts: the font which is used for the Tab names replaces the lower case x by " and does not show y and z (e.g. Inbo" everywhere !). This same problem appears in many places, so the word Mozilla itself appears as Moilla (when asking for the password), the subject fields are missing y and z and show " instead of x .... ! No problem with Uppercase X Y Z.

Interestingly enough, no such bug when using the debug mode (which may use different fonts, definitely bigger fonts ?)

Any idea of why ? Any solution ?

1. iNTRO - I spent an extra un-necessary year on the beta channel because of TBs Oauth2 set up problem. While there I had a major Tbird crash. Duplicates appearing , moving emails to other folders resulting in loss of said emails. incessant indexing, compacting and re-appearance of deleted contents of directories with unexpected loss of current contents. A real mess. After a month of this nonsense I only managed to recover by re-installing Beta to a new directory and copying backed up local folders manually, directory by directory, into the new Beta and checking (and or repairing) the contents, folder by folder. It took a day and a half. Arising from this experience and looking, sometimes aghast at the Beta Channe,l I suggest the following.

2. Suggestions 2 .1 Repair Tool We need to have a repair tool to rebuild a mail system just as I have partially described - you will know that there are many nuances in such a rebuild with some .sbd files not being recognised automatically and some others being recognised (trial and error methods were used to overcome these problems). In short you guys have the rule book and could easily programme a rebuild tool. What a relief it would be to know that such a rescue vehicle was at hand. 2.2 Back Up Tool As email data bases grow - mine is now 33 Gb - there has to be good back up system that users can trust. In the MS world (awful software) the back-up tools are not much good - so it would be useful for TB to do this or recommend some software for this purpose. I think TB guys should do this as Restore facilities are critical here - offering users options to recover particular email folders and emails and place them in particular locations would seem essential. 2.3 Archive

I have a lot of folders - but many are not  active at any one time. eg I have sent directories going back to 1997 eg Sent_1997, Sent_1998 etc . It would be useful to have a foreground / background arrangement of folders where folders in the background were semi-archived. They would be visible and accessible when required but not part of TB's routine search or maintenance .   They could be differently coloured in the LHS pane. It might take longer to access them. This might have the effect of preventing loss of active performance.

2.4 Deep Archive A deep archive where the user elects to compress(ZIP) folders in the Deep Archive. Once archived these would be ignored by the system unless they were released into the foreground /background area 2.5 Purge Command When things go wrong and the indexing screws up many duplicates are sometimes created. There should be a Purge folder command when right clicking on a folder.

There are other things such as better TB messaging and better documentation of the profile folder system - the existing information is too dispersed - and shoe-string - needs a User friendly approach not assuming one is familiar with shells. Do everything through DOS for consistency. Here too a tool would be useful.

HI I am using win 10 with the latest version of firefox. Yesterday when I booted into windows and started firefox it promptly crashed. I had made no changes either to the system or firefox in several days. Since then I have been unable to get it started except in safe mode and am therefore unable to enter troubleshoot mode. I tried my previous restore points but system restore failed with each one. I have run malewarebytes, adwcleaner and a couple of other programs but they all found nothing. My drivers are all up to date. As a last resort I did a clean uninstall of firefox and manually deleted the firefox folder. I downloaded a new installer from your site only to find that it crashed during install. However, using safemode, I did get it installed but it still crashes in normal mode. 1. When I go into multiple tabs (maybe 3 or 4 at a time) it all of a sudden freezes and I cannot get into any of the tabs anymore nor close/X them out. I end up having to force quit and close out all tabs I was using.

2. It is also giving me a page that I use everyday not upload all the way which has never happened to me before. I attached a photo of what that page looks like.
