I get a email from a web site that I have to log into on a regular basis. They are telling me starting today the web site will require TLS 1.2. I went to https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html to check like the web site informed me to do so. Click on Continue

Once the page completes the test, scroll down to the Protocol Features section. If Yes is displayed next to TLS 1.2, your browser will continue to work as it currently does with Talent Suite applications.

Mine shows 1.3 yes but not 1.2. I look it up 1.3 is not backwards compatible. So I changed the security.tls.version.max to 3 now everything for the TLS shows no when I run test I am lost

  Thanks for any help

When trying to send emails with the gmail account ####@utexas.edu my account requests me to sign in using an unrelated SSO login connected to the website www.utexas.edu. We have set the smtp to smtp.gmail.com and the port to 465, and I am able to receive emails to my inbox just fine without having to interact with the www.utexas.edu sso page. Incoming server is set to imap.gmail.edu port 993 and both are set to ssl/tls and OAuth2. Another user was able to successfully install Thunderbird and set it up with the @utexas.edu gmail account with no issues. I am on Thunderbird version 78.8.0 and Mac OS 10.14.6.

First, it is infuriating that when I go to the "ask the community" page, the text of the question I already input is not automatically entered into the SUBJECT box. I ask well written, complicated questions, and remembering EXACTLY what I said doesn't happen. And when I go BACK, the field is empty. At least print a warning for users to COPY their question so they can PASTE it, instead of having to re-formulate the words.

Second, the only way I got to the ""ask the community" page at all is by luckily finding it labeled in my bookmarks as the "actually ask a question" page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions Every time I start with the main mozilla.org page, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get to that page !!!

USING: V60.9.1 POP accounts

For many years all I had to do in Thunderbird was enter my various POP account passwords ONCE, upon starting the App. After the last restart, I have to enter them EVERY TIME I Send or Download. What caused this sudden change?

Never have used Master Password - but the FAQ for that does not say anything about that function auto-filling passwords every time I invoke Send or Download. I don't think it has anything to do with it.

There is a similar question from someone using LINUX, and I wonder if the new screwed up behavior has to do with creating a new POP or IMAP email account in TBird to work with things like Yahoo Mail which set an "Oauth" authentication:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1304806

Note that the Oauth account DOES NOT ASK ME FOR THE PASSWORD EVERY TIME. Not sure if it would ask once upon restarting TBird. Only the old POP accounts are now screwed up.

It seems that TBird screws up remembering passwords when an Oauth type account is created ? But why does it only screw up the POP accounts? What is the fix for this, its really annoying -- The LINUX thread indicates TBird no longer downloads automatically at the set periodic interval.

Thunderbird Linux keeps asking for passwords where it didn't before

Here's how it used to work and how I would like it to work: I start Thunderbird, it requests password(s). After I enter them correctly, Thunderbird scans for new mail and will periodically scan for new mail. I could scan sub-folders like sent or trash without entering a password. Sending email requires inputting the password the first time. This behavior used to persist until I closed Thunderbird.

Here's how it is working now: I start Thunderbird, it requests password(s). After I enter them correctly, Thunderbird scans for new mail. Initially I can enter sub-folders soon after startup without entering a password. After some number of minutes if I click on the inbox or do a "get new mail" or enter a sub-folder, it requires I enter the password again. Thunderbird no longer checks for new mail as it seems to have forgotten the password(s) I entered. Sending an email requires entering the password every time to send, and entering the password again every time so it can be copied to the sent folder.

I've been using Thunderbird for decades and this new behavior is very frustrating.

I recently converted one of my emails (yahoo) to oauth2 as yahoo imap will soon be disabled. I noticed the new behavior after this change, but cannot definitely attribute the undesirable behaviour to this change. After this change, the yahoo account no longer requires entering the password upon opening Thunderbird, for entering sub-folders or sending mail. This appears to be persistent.

What I've tried with no success: Run Thunderbird with addons disabled - undesired behaviour. Reinstall current version of Thunderbird - undesired behaviour. Reinstall older version of Thunderbird (clean profile forced) - undesired behaviour. Reinstall current version of Thunderbird with no yahoo account - undesired behaviour. Reinstall older version of Thunderbird (clean profile forced) with no yahoo account - undesired behaviour.

Any assistance that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.

I've been using Thunderbird for ages without any (real) problems. A few days ago, Thunderbird updated to version 78.5.0. Shortly thereafter the problems started. I can't remember if it started immediately after the update so I'm not sure if the update was the direct cause.

Anyway, every time I try to retrieve my mail (by clicking "Get Messages") a pop-up appears:

(See image attachment)

This pop-up isn't new to me since I'm using my own mail server with a self-signed certificate. So every time I update the certificate, I get this popup. It is new however the pop-up appears while nothing has changed (other than Thunderbird updating).

If I click "Confirm Security Exception", the popup disappears but no mail is retrieved. If I click "Get Messages" again, the pop-up reappears. Oddly enough, If I go to Thunderbird's Certificate Manager, I see the certificate was actually added.

So that's one strange thing. It isn't the strangest thing however. What's even stranger is that the location (email.glasshouse.nl:995) isn't the address of my mail server. If I look under Thunderbird's "Server Settings", I see the correct address. Even if I change the server address to something else (the IP address for instance), the pop-up still displays email.glasshouse.nl as location. I'm not worried this is some kind of hack or virus or malware since I recognize the address - it's the mail server I used well over ten years ago (in Thunderbird).

So what is actually going on here? And more important, how can I solve this so I can get to my email again?

Thanks in advance!

When I load a web page I still see ublock blocking things and if I add the DDG extension its finding stuff too at the same time.

Thoughts?

Hello,

recently I moved a website to the "Block Popups from this site" list.

Now I only have the option to generally block all pop-ups or to allow them in general.

Is there any way to get that yellow bar back, telling me, that something has blocked and allows me to select which Popup is to be allowed and which is declined?

Thank you!

Hi,

After reading on the new update with Firefox 86, it seems that you have made some really good changes on the way cookies are handled forcing each site to keep their cookie separate from everyone else.

So is the Is the multi account containers still useful in Firefox 86 if what I'm using them for is to keep from being tracked?

It seems that they would be useful if I wanted to open several different Gmail accounts at the same time from within their respective folders.

Thank you for your help.

Hi, does anybody else have this problem? I am using the Facebook container add-on which works fine apart from when I have been on Facebook and then go on to the MSN games site without closing Firefox first. If I close Firefox after using Facebook then open MSN games all is fine. If I forget to close Firefox and go straight to MSN games I lose all my games history and have to log on again with a pop-up appearing saying that they have changed their privacy policy. Many thanks

Lately I've been repeatedly asked for my SMTP password on the first email I send of the day (until closing TB) from certain accounts of those I have.

There appears to be nowhere where I can just ADD an SMTP account and it's respective password.

The particular accou8nt does not appear in the SMTP list of about ten accounts I have. Thus I can't edit it.

Believe me, for the two accounts in which this has been happening, they were once in that list.

Now the account is there but the smtp usage data is not on a line.

And when I do enter the respective password, TB does not ask me to remember it nor make an addition to the SMTP list.

thanks

I use a windows app called Shortkeys. It is a text substitution program that will replace text entered with a previously created template. I use it for passwords, for example "#mypw" will replace the text with the password I have previously entered. Thunderbird blocks the replacement. This started some months ago with the update to 78.7.1 (32-bit) which is my current version. Outlook email does not replicate this, nor does any other application. Workaround: I can use the shortkey on any document/text file and copy it into Thunderbird, with limitation. How to I allow Thunderbird to replace text, again?
