Chosen solution

Please upgrade to firefox 28 and then see if it works.

If the search is going somewhere else then in an updated version it could be because you have set the searchbar to use another search engine and so results are not quite what you expect. Can you explain what you mean by not going where you want by providing a couple of examples.

More likely it is a unwanted adware or malware problem

resetting Firefox could solve the problem, but that may not always help permanently if you have unwanted software that is still installed.

Rather odd. You also appear to be using an old unsupported version of Firefox. You should upgrade. You should by now be on Firefox 28

Your OS listing aside as NT4.0 what are you using ? It must be getting on towards 20 years old. The fact you are using Fx16 proves you have something new enough to go past Fx3.6

I understand XP OS support is about to cease. Any chance of upgrading the system or OS ? Maybe consider some lightweight Linux distro if you must use legacy hardware.

Back to your question try using Firefox in safemode.

The article does not show exact information for Firefox 16, but IIRC the major changes to safemode occurred before Firefox 16 so the graphics will look wrong but the options should be much the same.

I forgot to ask presumably you can see the location bar ?

If not you may be in full screen mode so try using keyboard key F11 to to toggle fullscreen on and off. otherwise maybe the toolbar is hidden check the view toolbars options.

IIRC Alt+V , Alt+T was a the shortcut to see the navigation bar selector.

Hi John99 After keying the address in the location bar and hitting the ENTER key, it does not go to where I had keyed in. Even though I click the icon on the right end of the location bar, I still don't get what I want. Please advise

Ok we may not have figured out exactly what caused it but it works so that is a success. Thanks for posting back.

If it happens again the try to open a new window to see if the location bar works there.
