Have used Thunderbird for about 2 weeks, no issues until a couple of days ago when sent folder disappeared. There was also an advisory something about if you have used the program after such and such a date, etc... Seems an update came to my computer at same time sent folder problem occurred. It's probably here someplace and possible easily found but ....

Thanks

I am assuming that you have not enabled your toolbars. So I would recommend this as it is much more user friendly and intuitive and virtually all help in forums refers to them.

3 bar menu icon > Options > select 'Mail Toolbar', 'menu Bar', 'Quick Filter Bar' and 'Status bar'.....see image.

Sorry, this is a new computer, I admit having issues finding my way around, I readily don't know where that folder is. I realize I may have unwittingly configured something to lose the sent folder, but now I have only the inbox folder with no, as far as I can tell, options or icons or buttons, etc to click to address any other folders!

Please state whether you use a Pop or IMAP mail account.

POP account.

As you have a pop mail account, then the webmail account will be irelevant.

first make sure you are seeing all your folders. 'View' > 'folders' > 'All'

If this does not work then Check to see what folders are in your Profile. Maybe, it has created another mail account directory. So test this.

  • for quick access - Help > 'Troubleshooting Information'
  • click on 'show folder'
  • a new window opens showing your Profile folders.
  • click on 'Mail' folder
  • what mail accounts do you see? do you have multiple copies of an account directory.? For example, if you have a Gmail account you should find a pop.gmail.com directory (it's named after the mail server) in the mail directory. Can you also see a pop-gmail-1.com directory?

click on each mail account and look for the folders. The files containing emails do not have any extention, so not eg: Sent.msf - this is just an indexing file. You would look for simply 'Sent' file.

Hopefully, one of the mail accounts will have the files and emails. Make a note of the mail account which has them.

In Thunderbird: Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account bottom right side - 'Local directory' this needs to point to the correct mail account, click on Browse' button to locate the correct directory. Then click on OK to save chnages.

Close and restart Thunderbird.

Re: your suggestion (which is appreciated): "first make sure you are seeing all your folders. 'View' > 'folders' > 'All' ", I do not have on screen with my inbox tab any way that I see to do this. If you are asking me to dig into Windows or below Windows, I would have to find how to do this, which I probably can with effort. But I don't understand why I don't have anything to click to make any headway toward an adjustment, preference, option, view, etc, etc. Sorry.

One other thing, to write an email now I right click the Thunderbird icon at the bottom of the screen. Prior to this, there was the button 'write' at the top which I would click to write a message. That is gone now.

I am really feeling like a dummy here but i don't see anything on my screen of '3 bar menu icon > Options > select 'Mail Toolbar', 'menu Bar', 'Quick Filter Bar' and 'Status bar'.....see image.' And the image is too small to read, is there a way to enlarge it? Note, I bring up Thunderbird and I get the inbox tab, that is all I get (hope I am not repeating myself unnecessarily).

Click on the image and it will show an enlarged image.

If you cannot see any toolbar with 3bar menu icon nor File, edit, View toolbar do this:

  • Hold down 'Alt' key to get a temporary toolbar.
  • View > Toolbars > select 'Menu Bar'

this will make that toolbar permanent then

  • View > Toolbars > select 'Mail ToolBar'

This will get you the GetMail, Write etc tools

Yes, using the Alt key got me to the layout options including my sent file. Thank you very much. This is a new computer, it went down last week for a couple hours during which time I tried various things to get back going, restart, etc. Finally, I got an advisory Windows update can not be done so reverting to earlier Windows version. I think that caused my problem with T'bird and I have since clicked on the option to not update without my approval first. Thanks, again, I confess I was near uninstalling this email pkg and searching around for another choice.
