when I go to options to enable java, I go to the content tab, and there is supposed to be a box for enabling javascript. I don't have this option. I have down loaded the latest firefox. the firefox I had I tried to remove from my system through control panel, add or remove programs, and I was unable to. I deleted firefox thru my computer. I downloaded firefox setup stub 28 and installed it. When I ran firefox, it already had my bookmarks, so I think I still have some of the previous firefox.

You're not missing that preference, it was removed back in Firefox 23. That pref is still available in the hidden prefs panel - about:config = javascript.enabled - default value is true

There are few extensions that a tool bar button to allow you to toggle that pref on / off.
Quick Java is one of those extensions.

I wish you would realize that not all of us are so computer literate. What do your mean by

"in the hidden prefs panel - about:config = javascript.enabled - default value is true"

What am I supposed to do with that.

I don't know why there are so many problems with firefox. All I want to do is run my daily business and I'm spending all my time trying to repair firefox all the time!

Get it together firefox!!!

From my experience, most people, when they install addons, sometimes they can be the cause of some of the problems. It also could be from addons that conflict with each other, also it depends what you have installed on your computer. Most users who aren't computer literate, don't pay attention what they install on their computer, and that is where other problems occur.

If you use a computer, please be aware what you are doing. If a police officer pulls you over because of some traffic violation, you can't just tell him, I was unaware of it.

Most "geek" computer users didn't go to school for computers, most are self taught.
