I keep setting my homepage to the one that I want. Consistently, Firefox changes my homepage back to theirs. This is making me extremely angry. I am sick of websites feeling that they have the right to change my settings.

How do I get this to stop rather than dumping Firefox all together?

hello, please see the following article for some probable solutions about the problem you have described: How to fix preferences that won't save (especially the section about a user.js file in your profile)

This doesn't solve it. It is not a third party, it is Firefox changing my homepage without warning and without my permission.

Changing your home page to what?

more options

Yes, please post the address of the page if you can.

The built-in Firefox home page is about:home (to view it, type or paste about:home in the address bar and press Enter). This "address" usually is invisible in the address bar and instead you see "Search or enter address" in faded type.

When you change the home page and click the home icon or open a new window (Ctrl+n), is your change effective, or is your setting ignored?

If the change is effective while Firefox is running, and the change is lost after you exit and restart Firefox, that's a different problem.

There are other things that need your attention:

Note that your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.

  1. Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0
  2. Shockwave Flash 11.6 r602

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove all (older) version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and (re)install the latest Flash player.

  • (32 bit Windows) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
  • (64 bit Windows) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

I set it over and over again, but every time Firefox upgrades or whatever, they change it back. I'm sick of it. I'm tired of other sites feeling that they have the right to change any of my settings without my permission. I don't want their homepage, I don't need their homepage, I want the one I set.

I sincerely appreciate your trying to help.

Ok, i asked you what page... I will try again. What is the URL that shows at the top of the page that is loading? I have no idea what the "Mozilla Firefox Home Page" is.

Today I have learned that is I type about"home in the address bar I will see the firefox home page. Is that the page you being redirected to.

There is no point repeating that your "sick of it" or " I'm tired of other sites feeling that they have the right to change any of my settings without my permission" they are non helpful statement. They simply do not assist anyone in understanding exactly what is happening so they can advise you. So we remain ignorant and you become increasingly frustrated. So please refrain from the emotional comments and try and answer the questions factually.

I asked you what page is loading. The first thing I will do when I get the address is put it into my browser. But I can not put in what you have said to see where it takes me.

Hi Merribuck, Firefox updates once or twice every 6 weeks. Is that the only time you see a change?

The default homepage in Firefox is about:home and the "title" on the tab reads Mozilla Firefox Start Page.

about:home is an internal page, it isn't on a website on the internet.

Is that the page that your homepage is getting reset to?

more options

Yes. It keeps going back to that. I'm just tired of outsiders thinking that they have the right to change any of my settings. First AVG kept slapping their toolbar, then Bing, and on and on.

Remember when the internet was fun?

Chastise all you want, I don't blame you, but this is just a wee part of everything that has been going on.

The Mozilla Start Up Page. I thought I made that clear. If I didn't, I apologize. I didn't see your question. I was too busy trying to close down hundreds of IE windows opening up rapidly....something else to deal with.

more options

Sorry. I didn't see you either. Most of the time, but sometimes it happens much more often. I would say mostly after the updates.

After an update, you usually get a one-time extra tab in addition to your home page showing a page on Mozilla's site that says you have the latest version. But your home page shouldn't change... not sure why that is happening.

I am not either. I have been trying to find out for quite a while.
