I have difficulty accessing Unified Folders without clicking on extreme left arrow to navigate individual emails. Kindly advise.

We use Thunderbird 3.1.20 on a Macbook Pro, OS X Version 10.9. Unless there is a shortcut the only way we can navigate emails/ or particular folders (eg INBOX) is by pressing the extreme left arrow button until the folder or email appears .... this can take 3 or 4 minutes. Is this this correct.
