Flash will not work on certain web sites. I never had a problem before with flash on FF in the nearly 15 years that I have used FF. Just recently it stopped working for some reason and on certain sites flash will not work, NHL.com and a kid's website Herotopia being just two of them. I updated FF, Adobe flash to the newest version reinstalled them several times deleted all files that were stored on my laptop; i.e. profiles, saved bookmarks anything that I could locate and in all the user accounts and in the app data local, local low, and roaming folders. What is strange is that I cannot adjust the local storage setting for flash either. When I visit Adobe's site to view the Adobe Flash Player settings manager I can move the scroll bar but cannot check the: allow third party flash content to store data on your computer. I cannot do that on a website where flash will not work. When I try and changed it on any website it goes back to zero. Not sure it that is part of the problem. I tired numerous suggestions on the support pages here but nothing works. I even tried to this http://forums.adobe.com/message/4566499#4566499#4566499

The other odd thing is that I used to get the "Warning: Unresponsive script" prompt that says "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete." sometimes when I would shop on Macy's.com. That would be the only site that this happened on. I know I have only limited tech knowledge but I have been trying to figure this out for a few days now and just do not know what happen. The only thing I can think of is that I have corrupt files somewhere that is causing this issue. I just updated to Windows 8.1 this evening in hopes that may help but to no avail. I would be very disappointing if I could not use FF or have to go back and forth using Chrome and FF. Sorry for the long posting but any solutions would be very much appreciated.

Hi jscher2000,

Yes, I basically followed the: manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968190?page=5#answer-509209 that you posted.

And after restarting Firefox, Flash has been working. Thanks again for your post I could not find this solution on Adobe's forums until you posted the link. Your expertise and time is much appreciated.

Was the solution to disable the protected mode feature of the Flash Player plugin?

For reference by others, this involves creating or editing a configuration file. See these for more info:

This might not take effect until after you exit and restart Firefox.
