I am fairly new to fire fox but was really liking it on my new galaxy note 8 tablet. However it updated in the last couple of days and ever since then it won't open. I have not yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling as I am not sure if that is the best course of action. I'd be grateful for any help! Thanks.

HI dlpmikki,

Thank you for contacting support. New hardware and android version? Awesome! What version of android is on the Galaxy Note 8? And what version of Firefox? Beta, Nightly, just Firefox?

  • Also what steps did you take right before Firefox crashed?
  • Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall it?

Thanks for your response :-)

The note has android 4.2.2 on it. The fox is flashfox? I got to these forums by following the links on the app page of play store so hope it is the right place! I wasn't actually doing anything with Internet when it first crashed, just got a message saying flash fox had crashed. I may have been looking at email or twitter - not sure. Ever since then I have not been able to open flashfox at all

Does this device have Flash installed on it? Try to install the plugin to see if it is flash crashing the browser. I am not sure about Flashfox, but it seems like their support points you here or to MozillaZine, will do our best to help.

This is a third party reference that helps install flash on the device since it looks like it does not have flash? http://galaxynotehelp.com/run-flash-on-your-samsung-galaxy-not...

It didn't come with flash but I had followed some instructions from xda developers before and used their method to load it. Initially the flash fox worked like a dream with the flash.

Which plug in did you want me to try and install (and how do you install one!)? I may be at the edge of my technical skills here.......

Two questions,

  1. The steps they had you take, was it for flashfox only, and did it stop working in flashflox and firefox?
  2. If they installed flash on your device it may not be there after the update. You can follow the steps they had you take before or manually download flash with the instructions from that second link.

Hope this helps, installing it is pretty easy. You will be prompted on the phone to install from the browser then in the notifications there will be a download complete. tap on this then open with package installer. If you get the blocker, then you will have to go into the security settings of your tablet and unblock unknown (be sure to change this back when you are done)

Thank you very much for your help. I reinstated flash which didn't solve it but I then reinstalled flash fox and everything now works. The link to get flash was especially helpful as that is hard to find.

Flashfox is not made by Mozilla.

We strongly recommend you only use Firefox made by us. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox

If you need Flash you can get Flash from Adobe by following this support article. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-watch-flash-videos-firefox-android
