When I go to the site chesscube.com, a big and secure chess site have been playing on for years the login process ends with a gray screen which shows nothing. When I go to ABC News site for video replays the 'loading' process sticks and just keeps saying 'loading.' I started by clearing cache, cookies, etc. AT&T agent suggested re-installing, which I had already done recently. Currently have Firefox 25. Operating system Vista.

In case the update trigger a new add-on incompatibility, could you try the sites in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash will still work)

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

You can try to reset (power off/on) the router.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
