is there a compatability mode in firefox as in Internet Explorer?
I was in a Forum with IE8, but am now using Firefox (IE8 wasn't working). I can't get signed into this other forum (something for WordPerfect), and their automatic reply said if I were using IE9 or IE 10 to use compatibility mode.

Firefox doesn't have the kind of compatibility mode you find in IE8 and later because Firefox doesn't have the code needed to render pages the way older versions of IE did it.
What is the nature of the sign-in problem? For example, the form is incomplete, or it doesn't submit, or it submits but the site doesn't accept your credentials even when you know they are correct, etc.
Sometimes it helps to post the address of the problem site here in case someone knows of a workaround for it.
I sign in with what I know is correct (name and password) and when I click SIGN IN, it returns to empty blanks in those spaces.
This can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked (check the permissions on the about:permissions page).
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

I did Clear Now (Cache) but it didn't look like it did anything.
I clicked on Show Cookies, but how do I know (from a whole list of things I don't understand) which are sites causing problems.
To view site-specific cookies, you can use the Page Info dialog while you're on the page. Either:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- click the padlock or globe icon on the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"
- Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
This should filter the list to the site you're on.
I assume you get the same blank page if you enter asdf as the username and password. Would you want to share the address of the page? If not, here's the first thing I'd check:
Open Firefox's Web Console to see whether Firefox is submitting the form data correctly.
Press Ctrl+Shift+k to open the Web Console.
Then load the login page. This should display a list of items starting with the URL of the page, followed by various other URLs for things like style sheets and images, then probably some style warnings and possibly some script errors. For now, I'm just interested in the URLs.
Right click one of the URLs and turn on "Log Request and Response Bodies." Then click Clear on the toolbar just above the list to clear it.
Then fill in the form and submit it. What I would expect to see is that Firefox would post the form to the server and get back a response (usually not the same page).
The first URL should be the one that the form submitted to. If you click that, Firefox should display a small window with request headers, then cookies, then the form content, followed by the response headers, cookies, and page code. Can you scroll down and check:
- Did Firefox include cookies with the request?
- The form data may be a little hard to read if the form has a lot of fields, but can you see your login information?
If that looks right, there may be a problem on the server processing the information Firefox sent (due to some difference in the way form variables are formatted, perhaps). Or perhaps there is a third party issue: some sites require you to allow third party cookies and scripts to work correctly.
If cookies are missing, I would investigate cookie permissions (are they blocked?).
If form values are missing, I'd look for a problem with the site's scripts or the page layout.
I tried to answer this, but I think I must have deleted my reply before sending it. I had been trying to follow the directions above, but I guess I'm not computer literate enough to understand. BTW, the address is OfficeCommunity.com and when I just tried again, I got this message:
Invalid User Credentials The username and/or password cannot be validated, or your account is locked out or has not been approved yet.
Hi Jay-Tee, when I put in asdf asdf I get that same message, so it seems the page is submitting to the server correctly. If the problem continues after clearing cookies, I wonder whether there might actually be something wrong with your account on the site, or perhaps your password got reset somehow.
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
As an IT Helpdesk administrator for the last 6 Years this doesnt sound at all like a browser or webpage issue. This specific user encountered the standard response for typing in an incorrect authentication challenge. The first few tries the page automatically resets with the fields blank (Usually a message somewhere saying invalid attempt) and waits for you to try again. After a specified number of incorrect attempts it locks your account to discourage brute force hacking attempts.
The only problem you might have been experiencing is a failure of the browser to display the "Invalid Username or Password - Please Try Again" message.
My advice for when this happens to my customers is to verify your login information by logging in from another source. Then double checkthat the Caps lock AND Num Lock are correctly set. Many times the caps arr fine but Num lock is off so the number pad is not registering keystrokes correctly which causes the error.
