Strange pages come up when trying to go to a site.

When I click to go to a site I get odd things like take a Firefox survey, free Wal-Mart card, both of which are selling things. The 1st one I got was just a small white box in the middle of the page that said something like Congratulations. You are the lucky visitor & win a prize. Click here. That still comes up too. I've never clicked on it. An example of a time it happens is this. I play Gardens of Time. I also belong to Facebook. If I'm on FB & one of my nabors needs something & I try to help & can't get to the GOT site to help them.I get one of the above. I changed today to Safari & it hasn't happened at all from Safari. I much prefer Firefox but if this continues, & it has for many days, I will be forced to use another site. Please help clear this up.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Could it be one of your extensions?

  • ShopAtHome.com Toolbar
  • YouTube Enhancer Plus
  • YouTube to ALLPlayer
  • Youtube Video Replay

Try disabling them all and see whether the problem goes away. If so, you can re-enable them one-by-one as desired.

To open the Add-ons page, either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

Then click into the Extensions category (click Extensions in the left column).

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any luck?
