I downloaded a Firefox security update today and now Firefox refuses to load any page from the web. What do I do?
Today when opening Firefox I was advised of a security and stability upgrade was available. I downloaded the upgrade.
Following this I was unable to access my homepage or any other page on the web.
I then tried downloading the latest version without uninstalling the existing version on my computer, in order to avoid losing my favourites and bookmarks.
During the download process I was advised that it had been interrupted, but by clicking OK it would continue.
I then started the Install Wizard which I apparently successfully completed.
However, I still cannot access any pages on the web.
How do I recover the installation of Firefox that existed yesterday, before I downloaded the update?
Regards
Alan

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I solved the issue by using the Microsoft System Restore function, taking my system back to the last system update from Microsoft.

Alanpsmith_uk,
You said that you solved the issue by using the Microsoft System Restore function so I marked the 10/30/13 answer by Nellus91 as solving the problem. Thanks for posting back with the outcome.
