www.javainstall.org is taking over a tab on Firefox, uninvited.
Daily, if there is no activity, javainstall takes over the first tab with a dialog box suggesting that the java version I am running is out of date and unsafe.
The first time it happened, I clicked 'OK' and was invited to download a load of junk I didn't need or want.
I went to the Oracle site, downloaded and verified java there. It makes no difference.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox. Ditto.
I have set Firefox not to allow re-directions. Ditto.
I have run a full scan with Panda Cloud. Ditto

Hello,
I think malware may be to blame for this.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
I've had particular success with hitman pro and malwarebytes.
Also run a full scan with your existing antivirus software.
I also suggest doing the following:
- Look through your list of windows installed programs and uninstall any that you think might be related.
- Look at your windows startup applications and block any from booting that you don't want or you think might be related.
- Look at your list of Firefox Add-ons and remove any that you didn't add yourself.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Once the malware causing the problem has been removed it will stop being able to influence Firefox. However the settings that it has modified in Firefox may still be unchanged. If they are then I suggest doing a Firefox reset which will put all your settings back to defaults. Please note that although your history and bookmarks will be saved you will need to reinstall your add-ons.

Earlier this year, there was a program that added a Windows scheduled task to launch a web page in the default browser every day at the same time. If you think this is happening on that regular a schedule, you could review your scheduled tasks here:
Windows XP: Start button > [All] Programs > Accessories> System Tools > Scheduled Tasks
Windows Vista/7: Start button > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler
Thanks, eddy c. I have run HitmanPro (I'd already done a full scan with Panda). Hitman found 53 'threats', but none of them looked connected.
I'll watch for the next day or so and get back to you.
Thanks again,

Thanks jscher2000. I've had a look and there wasn't anything suspicious (mostly RealPlayer stuff). I've removed the whole lot anyway. Will see what happens tomorrow and get back to you.
Thanks again,
