The new default browser is called ask.com and it appeared after I installed a faster downloading program. I have uninstalled the new program from my computer and add0ons but it is still throwing me back to new default browser even after I installed firefox four times. It's irriating and it just does not seem to want to go away. How do I get rid of it without losing bookmarks and information?

Chosen solution

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

You can do a search on the about:config page page for ask.com
