Firefox requirements

Posted

Hello,

I just did a fresh install of Win7Ult SP1 32-bit. Installed all the drivers, and I installed Firefox. I can not go to about:addons because I receive the following error:

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to services.addons.mozilla.org, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

Then I went to Mozilla.org, and it didn't display correctly, what I mean, everything was in links, and I say on that page the following:

Your system doesn't meet the requirements to run Firefox.

I haven't change a single thing hardware wise, just a FRESH Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 32-bit. I never had this problem for the past three years of using Firefox. Right now, I am using IE10, which I DO NOT LIKE at all. PLEASE, CAN ANYONE ASSIST ME IN TROUBLE SHOOTING THIS?

I also receive this error when I go to about:healthreport

I even tried restarting in safe mode.

This really has me troubled. That is why I am here.

Thank You. David

Question owner

I set the time and date correctly on time.nist.gov via windows 7 time. Did not work. I deleted the cert8 file as suggested in the answer, did not work. Here is a screenshot of my about:addons

If you need any other information, I will be gladly attempt to get it to you. I tried this under Beta and Release Candidate, both versions had the same problem. Thanks You David

Hi David, if you expand the Technical Details section, does that further explain the reason the certificate isn't being accepted?

That site does use a slightly unusual certificate, in that it covers 4 different domains. This one is in the Alternate Name field, it's not the main domain, but Firefox still should be able to handle it...

Regarding the strange message on mozilla.org, it implies that the site did not receive your Firefox 23 user agent string. I have a test page here where you can see what user agent string is received from your Firefox: https://jeffersonscher.com/res/jstest.php

Question owner

You wouldn't believe this, but today when I came home from the hospital (my mother has been in the hospital for two weeks come this Monday), and just before I went to check my e-mail, my home page is set to about:home, I decided to click on Add-ons, and it was as though an angel came down and fixed what ever was wrong, and I no longer had that problem. I couldn't ever reproduce that program if I tried.

I just want to thank you for showing me where to start looking to trouble shoot the problem. Any ways, this is the export of that certificate:

Thank you again for showing me another tool to trouble shoot Firefox when it's not acting the way it's suppose to. You have been very valuable to me with this problem. I'm enclosing a screen shot of the link you gave me. If you see anything unusual, I would welcome any and all feedback.

Last question. How did you included a screen shot of the window in firefox? I tried to upload my screenshot, but it didn't come out like yours. What's the "magic trick" secrete?  :)

Question owner

Okay, I lied. I was able to reproduce this error. When I went to create a NEW profile (firefox.exe -profilemanager), (Test-Profile), and used it, I received the exact same errors. I followed your instructions for trouble shooting. This is the certificate for addons.mozilla.org:

I am not a programmer or even a script writer, so a lot of this information is unknown to me. Hopefully, you or someone might be able to see what's going on with Firefox on my system.

One last note, I'm going to install an older ( a month or two) version of Firefox to see if I get the same problem. I would really appreciate any and all feedback concerning this matter. Thank You. David

Hi David, unfortunately I don't know how to convert those long certificate strings into English...

If you expand the Technical Details section, does that further explain the reason the certificate isn't being accepted?

To view the actual certificate, I believe you have to start the process of adding an exception. Expand the I Understand the Risks section, click the Add Exception button, then click View to capture a screen shot similar to the one I posted. (Then you can cancel our rather than save the exception.)

Note: I usually capture screen shots using Alt+PrintScreen, paste them into Windows Paint, then save in PNG format. Then I attach them to a reply using the Browse button below the post area.

Question owner

Hi,

Sorry I haven't been here allot, but I created a NEW profile via firefox -profilemanager. I still get an error when ever I go to addons, and even this support page. This is the error I am getting:

Error Code: (sec_error_unknown_user)

Then I went to this support page, and I get a similar problem, I add the exception: https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/images/2013-08-15-07-28-25-ffb976.png

and when I came to this page, all the html was unable to display:

https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/images/2013-08-15-07-29-03-89ac33.png

I hope that the little added information and screenshots will help you help me with this strange and odd problem. I really appreciate the time and effort you've given me for trouble shooting this problem. Thank You. David

from your first screeenshot, please also click on certificate status - view... and make another screenshot of the window that opens afterwards - this will give more clues!

Check out why the site is untrusted (click "Technical Details to expand that section) and if this is caused by a missing intermediate certificate then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.

You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.

  • Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"

Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".

  • Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.

You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.

Note that some firewalls monitor secure (https) connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.

I cleared everything of my computer related to FF, then I did a clean install and used the default user. Had no problem. When I originally came here to reply what happened, I went to POST REPLY, and I received the same error, I closed FF 24.0b3, restarted FF, and I still had the problem. I wiped my pc of all ff and did a fresh install. I'm replying using FF now. I'm afraid to POST REPLY, here goes nothing. David

Question owner

Okay, the post above, I didn't get the problem. As I was attempting to reply to the above reply, I clicked on POST REPLY, and the problem was back. I am using IE 10, which I DO NOT LIKE USING. I am a Firefox user for life.

Any suggestions? What can I do next?

Screen shot below. HELP, I'm frustrated......

I don't understand what this means:

•ESET setup -> advanced setup -> extend web and email tree -> SSL •SSL protocol: Do not scan SSL protocol

Is this a program within Windows 7 Ult SP1 32-bit? Thank You.

Okay here is the certificate for services.addons.mozilla.org

thanks for posting back with the screenshots requested - hopefully we're now one step closer to sorting this issue. the sceenshots show that the certificates are issued by a software named sendori which is intercepting your connections. please try if you can uninstall it in the windows control panel > programs section. when searching for it on the web it is also often referred to as malware, so you might have to use one of the security tools recommended in the following article to scan your system and get rid of sendori: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

Sendori support articles that might be useful:

Note: Instead of removing Sendori, if you find this software useful and the company trustworthy, you could globally trust their certificate. However, at this point, I don't recommend it. I can't find any documentation on why it's necessary to prevent you from visiting questionable sites (the purpose of the Sendori software) or how the software ensures your security on HTTPS connections.
