Firefox will stall and crash after attempting to add or download any kind of files. I have also note that when highlighted the words in the boxes under the top of the screen menus File, Edit, Tools and Help will look like frayed, this will not happen with the menus View, History and Bookmarks where the words are solid and clear. I recently reinstalled Firefox and the program has created a Old Firefox Data in my desktop. The last version I had +/- two years was also having a similar problem plus a total freeze and crash by going to Options, which does not happen anymore.

Firefox 22 Windows XP Media Center Edition SP3

I did a complete uninstall from normal mode.

I then installed Firefox from the Mozilla webpage. I still have the same problems.

Now Firefox stall and crash also when going to Options. I see that the add-ons inludes like 14 pluggins.

This was the question I was trying to get answer before the new firefox was installed...

I would try following the uninstall instructions; do you think is better to do it in Normal or Safe Mode (Admin or our account)?

I have only had to reinstall firefox one time after a restore on my windows 8 system. I got involved in your question by accident. I was looking at your question and checking links posted by ideato. I found one confusing and tried to clarify with ideato. My old computer runs windows xp. I hope cor-el or tdowner responds. I have no idea or suggestion on how to help from this point on. I have very limited experience helping others. I try to choose questions I reply to carefully.

It's ok David, I appreciate much your effort.

Did you try to disable the VLC player plugin or possibly disabled this plugin in the VLC settings as a lot of the crash reported that you posted have a VLC DLL in the crashing thread?

Note that Firefox Safe Mode doesn't affect plugins.

Hi cor-el, I try disabling VLC from Firefox but the problem persisted. I then continue to disable each of the others plugins till all of them where done and the results where the same.

I decided to complete uninstall VLC till this problem is solved (just in case); the VLC pluggin is no longer listed in the Add-ons.

I have no Extensions, no Services in Firefox.

I update the video card drivers to the latest version release. _________________________________________________________________________________

Firefox collapses in Options only if I press on the General or Applications tabs.

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Hello Cor-el, Did you notice that after his clean install he had 14 plugins? I thought with a true clean install he would have to reinstall his plugins. Just trying to lend a small assist. Do not reply to me, just to EmmanuelF.

My Firefox 22 has seven plugins.

Creating a new profile did not made it. I even disabled the plugins in the new profile but the problem persist.
