Presumably when you right click you use the option to close that tab and not one of the other options.
- as a test try all the options do all the other options wok as expected ?
- does the close tab option work using the keyboad shortcut Ctrl+C ? once the tab has been right clicked
- and; out of curiosity; open the Bookmarks sidebar Ctrl + B does the mouse pointer behave normally in the sidebar ? (Not miss-aligning and displaying wrong tooltips ? )
- Use safe mode
- see Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode
- repeat the above tests and additianally the right click and close tab option
- still having problems run through again in safe mode but this time also disable all plugins first.
Want a quicker attempt at a solution, and do not mind loosing things like extensions and open tabs the use Firefox Reset see
I AM SORRY, I have only recently moved to firefox and am still having the habit of using the X in the top right hand corner as I did with INT. EXP. and I keep expecting to just loose the page on screen but it reminds me I am about to close all the open pages, I wondered if anyone had created an app. to do this??
Note that you can middle-click a tab with the mouse scroll wheel to close that tab.

You should not close Firefox by using the button on the top right to close the Window. That is why Firefox gives you a warning.
Instead use the close/exit/quit (whatever the wording) option within the Firefox Button menu. Or more likely on XP the option within the File menu.
As for restarting with tabs from the last session that is already an option. (Probably also available from the History dropdown menu).
