'Most visited' has disappeared from my locations bar. I have tried all suggestions re about:config, drag and drop, etc. Nothing works. Thoughts?

The 'most visited' tab and an RSS feed tab that I use have disappeared from my locations bar. They are now sitting under 'Bookmarks' and are very inconvenient.

I have followed all suggestions from Mozilla and other sources regarding about:config. Nothing works. I have tried to drag and drop 'most visited' back to the locations bar, but that doesn't work, either.

Can someone please give me a solution?

Thanks so much.

You can drag the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" from the Bookmarks Toolbar to the Navigation Toolbar if you want bookmarks to appear on the toolbar.

Hi patalarga, They should drag and drop, but do not do it by trying to drag them directly to the bar on an open tab.

Instead open your Bookmarks Manager/Library e.g. use (Ctrl + Shift + 0 Linux) edit Ctrl + Shift + B in Windows and drag them from Bookmarks folder to the Bookmarks Toolbar folder

Note it is possible to nest folders on the bookmarks toolbar and they become dropdown selections, that may help with space.

If that does not work you have a problem, but it should fix easily.

John, thanks so much for posting. The situtation is that the 'most visited' and RSS feed are ALREADY in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder. I want to put them back where they have always been, in the locations bar. None of the suggestions offered regarding about:config or dragging and dropping work. I'm frustrated...

If you put them in Bookmarks Toolbar folder they should show upon the loctaion bar.

  • Have you set your location bar to display is that the problem ?
  • Can you see the location bar ?

It is possible that things have gone faulty and they can be reset but that may loose some customisation you already have. First of all make sure the location bar is displaying.

It is probably best if you provide a screenshot of your display and your library.

If you do need to reset the display

  1. see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf
  2. use troubleshooting and the button to open the profile location
  3. close Firefox and rename the file localstore.rdf call it old1-localstore.rdf
  4. restart Firefox and toolbars should be back to the default settings.

The 2nd (indented) article above suggests a quicker reset method but looses more information: all extensions will be removed and all open tabs lost so please read the article before doing that and bookmark tabs and extension homepages (& or sync your device to a second one)

Thanks one and all for your kind and prompt responses. It's fixed!
