As noted in the above article, support for H.264 in the native HTML5 player on Windows 7 launched 7 weeks ago in Firefox 21.

The forum software detected your Firefox as version 18. Is that correct?

Version 18 is not secure; Mozilla discloses security flaws after each new release. Is something holding you back from upgrading to Firefox 22? Please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds.

If Help > About Firefox shows Firefox 22.0, you may need to clear the preference that is misreporting your version number. See: How to reset the default user agent on Firefox.

Thank you so much for the replies. I have been holding back on updating Firefox because of extension incompatibilities. But if there will be support for H.264 with HTML5 on Firefox. I'd be pretty pleased with that. I guess i'll have to find out some work around with the incompatibilities with the extensions that are in problem with the newer version.

Is the information on this page (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/HTML/Supported_media_formats) up to date? This page shows Mac OS X 10.7 as supported but same is not working for me.

Also isn't it odd that 10.7 is supported but not 10.8? Is this deliberate?

Can anyone else play H.264 encoded videos through HTML5 tag. Same video works for me if I drag and drop it in a firefox window. But when I try to use it through HTML5 tag, error console shows a warning, "Unsupported content type video/mp4"!

Steps to reproduce:

Install FF23 (with FF22 all is ok!!!)

then watch these video in the left side (H264) http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/graphics/videoformatsupport/default.html Actual results:

Green lines/green videos on the rightside of the videos h264.

Expected results:

all the videos have to work fine as with FF22!!

the changelog of FF23 tells about "DXVA2 accelerated h264 on Vista+".... I guess that a bug has been introduced.

workaround: use FF22, or disable hw acceleration in FF23, but...I have a new GPU card and new drivers, therefore it is not nVidia issue. Mozilla please fix this bug introduced in FF23. thanks.

ehmm... can you confirm that this change introduced the issue that I signlized above?

whay until FF22 all the videos are ok, now I see green color? I guess, that there is a new bug. do you agree?

I'm having an issue on OS X:

Direct mp4 URLs work in the browser. Not in HTML5 tags. "No video with supported format and MIME type found".

OS X 10.8.4 - Firefox 23.

Hi cor-el : thanks. yes, it was from seeing that page that prompted me to test it out and see that it doesn't work.
