  • What instructions are you following?
  • What Preference Name are you modifying in about:config?
  • Are you sure you are using the most recent version of Firefox? Your tag is showing up as v12. You should update to v21.

Yes it is from this laptop and is the most recent firefox, i emailed from the other one where it worked. Instrucion from firefox support forum Try to disable some browser.taskbar.*enable prefs on the about:config page.

browser.taskbar.lists.enabled;true browser.taskbar.lists.frequent.enabled;true browser.taskbar.lists.maxListItemCount;7 browser.taskbar.lists.recent.enabled;false browser.taskbar.lists.tasks.enabled;true browser.taskbar.previews.enable : Tools > Options > Tabs > "Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar"

Done this but still when right clicking, frequent tasks is coming up

Ok so you are wanting to remove the Windows 7 Task Jump Lists from Firefox.

I am guessing you are following the instructions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/892857

Those instructions were posted over a year ago (reported working for v7.0.1). They don't work for me on Firefox v21. I think that is why they work for you on one laptop (Firefox v12) and not on the other (Firefox v21).

I'm not sure if this option is possible anymore. Please hang on and another support volunteer will be along who may know more.

There is a bug in Firefox 21 related to Windows 7 Task bar Jump Lists. Firefox 21 lost the ability to update the jump list: it could not update the Frequent list or the Tasks section (on fresh installs, these are missing or blank). My guess would be that using Firefox features to try to remove an old list is ineffective for the same reason.

The fix has been added to beta 4 of Firefox 22 (if you want to try: beta page).

Earlier long thread on the bug: Why do visited sites not show in my jump list? (Win 7 Ultimate).
