Why does McAfee not instal without Internet Explorer ?

I haven't heard of this but many years ago I tried out McAfee and it couldn't update itself unless IE was the default browser. I assume they've fixed that by now...

Are you installing from a CD (retail package), or is it an error in a web page?

I'm using a download from McAfee - I already have McAfee installed on two other computers quite OK, one using XP (with Internet Explorer) and one using windows 7, but the computer in question I am using Firefox having removed IE6. Seems as though McAfee haven't bothered to be compatible with other OSs. I'll go to McAfee and ask why not !!!!

Hi kengeo, there's no harm removing the IE6 icon, but you shouldn't actually remove the IE6 program components. You might need to do a system file repair to restore them from your system or recovery CD, or perhaps you can just install IE8 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downlo.../internet-explorer-8-details.aspx.
