I turned my laptop on Saturday, and loaded Firefox. At this point the automatic update installer took over (As it usually does when updates are to be carried out) but my laptop died half way through the update.

When I turned my laptop back on, I clicked on Firefox and got a little box with a red 'X' with about 3 words, although I cant remember what they said now, basically that Firefox wasn't going to come up.

I unistalled Firefox and reinstalled it later on and it worked perfectly.

On Sunday, I loaded my laptop and when I clicked on Firefox i got the message: "the item referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions"

I just reinstalled Firefox and hoped this would be the end of it.

However, every time I turn my laptop off, then turn it back on I have to reinstall Firefox every time, so have to have a shortcut on my desktop for the installer package which is causing a lot of hassle for me and wasting a lot of time...

Does any one have a solution?

Thanks

Ellis

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Thanks, I will try this. Although the only problem I have is that once Firefox is deleted off my laptop, I cant download anything as the only alternative I have is IE9 and that doesnt let me download a thing as I keep getting the message:

"The file contained a virus and has been deleted"

So I will have to work on this.

Thanks
