After upgrading from FF 19 to FF20 favicons are no longer displaying in the URL bar, nor are they being saved to favourites. I have disabled all add-ons and still no change. PC restarted numerous times, no change. Any thoughts?

You can check these pref(s) on the about:config page.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

I also have problem with ff20 See image. Some favicons show up, others don't. A few hours ago only two were visible, now several, but not all. I checked on missing ico sites that the favicon is in the source for the web site. All icons appear when using chrome browser with the same favorites menu bar.

Did you try to click items that do not have a favicon to open the link in a tab to see if that helps?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Yes, I have used each of the sites who fail to display. I just restarted Firefox again and 3 more favicons appeared! Still missing 3. This morning I had 2 out of 19 displayed. Nothing worse than inconsistent.

On my Mac (OSX10.8.4), it does NOT save the screenshot as 'Picture 1', as 'experts' on here say it should on the link "How to create a Screenshot. No, it saves it as 'Screen Shot 2013-01-28 at 15.58.01'. So I wasted a lot of time, thinking I had done something wrong during the download, but all the time I was looking for a wrongly named file!! My problem - like 1000s of other folk it seems - is favicons. Why ARE there such intractable problems with this fiddly little thing?? The problems have been going on for years and years and years! I'll tell you what I did (and by the way, got nowhere), I did what I was told by a so-called iweb 'expert' and uploaded my little favicon.ico to the root folder of my website. Result: no favicon on the address bar and no favicon on tabs. The iweb man said, "Tackle Mozilla about this. They will be able to help." Will you? Can you tell me where I am going wrong? I am willing to listen and will try anything, just like I have been trying for the last 6 months or so.

Sorry, I forgot to mention my FF version: 21.0

Are you talking about the screenshot command of the Developer Toolbar?

The default file name is "Screen Shot yyyy-mm-dd at HH.MM.SS.png" in the download directory, but you can specify a file name yourself or you can copy the screenshot to the clipboard and paste it in an image editor

screenshot picture-1.png
screenshot --fullpage fullpage-1.png
screenshot --fullpage --clipboard true --delay 3

Cor-el, Perhaps I didn't make it clear, but my main problem is with favicons - always has been. I sorted out how to do a screenshot myself, but can you help me with how to upload a favicon with a transparent background. I have it all prepared, but it won't show if I just load it into my root folder via FTP. Why ARE there such intractable problems with this fiddly little thing?? Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page that doesn't require authentication (signing on)?

Does that favicon display if you paste its expected URL in the location bar?

What are the dimensions of this favicon and the favicon file?

Im having this problem with certain favicons - my forum favicon will not display but does on chrome, neither does speedtest.net, kvraudio.com and pirateproxy.se and all work on Chrome so its obviously a Firefox issue

heres a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/RJujgQd.jpg

ive tried the favicon changer which would not change ANY favicon?

I have no theme installed or menu add-on?

I have completely deleted all cache etc using Ccleaner and still no joy?

maybe its only ICO files with certain resolution? the one for my forum is 64x64

HERE IS THE FIX....

for some reason 'browser.chrome.favicons' is fixing on false, change to true and reload the website without restarting firefox and the favicon loads, restart firefox and they dont because 'browser.chrome.favicons' has gone back to false... why I don't know but here is how I fixed it:

what you need to do is edit the user.js file to change it to true and save it (while firefox is closed) and this fixes it...tested!

got these instructions elsewhere:

1 Click the Firefox menu at the top left and go to Help > Troubleshooting Information.
2 Next to Profile , click Open Folder.
3 Scroll down until you see user/user.js, right click on it and Open with Notepad.
4    Find user_pref("browser.chrome.favicons", false); and change it to user_pref("browser.chrome.favicons, true);
5 Save and close, and that's it.

make sure Firefox is closed before you click SAVE on the notepad file..

then open Firefox and watch those favicons load :)
