I want to modify Firefox cache so it works like it did in the previous version, i.e. not broken into multiple folders but rather all are shown in a row without being in folders.

Goto Firefox Menu > Tools > Options > Privacy

History > Firefox will "Use Custom Settings for History"

and modify according to your need.
