Do you believe this is related to Firefox, or are you asking generally about how to reduce battery drainage on Android?

First off, you can check which apps are using the battery the most by going into Android's settings (not Firefox settings!) and selecting Battery in the list. Normally the Display should be eating most of your battery, but sometimes an app might be hogging up the CPU a lot. If you see an app there that uses more battery than you think it should, first check if this is an app that you actually use, and if not, uninstall it.

(If it's Firefox that's causing this, don't uninstall it! Let's keep troubleshooting to figure out why it's using a lot of CPU if that's the case.)

As to the more general question about how to avoid battery drainage, here are some tips:

• Turn off the screen whenever you're not using the phone. The screen easily uses the most of the battery life.
• Use a lower screen brightness setting. Automatic brightness can sometimes be brighter than it needs to be.
• Turn off Wifi and carrier data if you don't need it. There are apps for this that handles this automatically, such as Easy Battery Saver. I've used it somewhat successfully on my own phone but I find that it sometimes fails to turn wifi back on after a while, so I decided to uninstall it.

Another thing to keep in mind if your phone is older than six months is to consider getting a new battery. I'm only suggesting this because I had problems with my Galaxy Note getting its battery drained in a matter of hours after being just a year old. I finally decided to try with a new battery and it was like buying a completely new phone! Now I have at least 3x more battery capacity. So, sometimes the batteries can age faster than normal -- and since the OEMs' guarantees normally don't cover the battery, all you can do is to buy a new one. Fortunately they're inexpensive -- mine cost less than $15 bucks.

If I understand the OP correctly, I am having the same problem. I'm running Firefox Beta on my Droid 2 running Android 2.3.4. If I accidentally leave Firefox open when I lock the screen, it seems to drain my battery faster than if I press Home and get to the home screen first. The problem seems specific to Firefox, though it could be because Firefox is one of my most commonly used apps.
