When Firefox is in the background or minimized and a sound plays, it causes the window to come to front. How do I stop this?

When I am on a chat site, and have minimized the window or have another program in front of Firefox. When someone sends me a message it plays a sound. This cause the Firefox to come the the front of my other programs. I would like to turn the function/feature off so that I can still hear the sound, but it doesn't jump in front of the other windows. Please help :)
