I had to register a new help account just to get here.

Your broser has been fucking up like crazy since the last update. I have been having nothing but problems logging into multiple sites. Sites would log me out randomly, then I wouldn';t be able to log back in. I tried to make an account on a new site and had to try 11 damn times before it went through. and just now, when I tried to ask a troubleshooting question, my username and password wouldn't work. So I sent a password reset request. Nothing happened. I sent at least FIVE password reset requests. None of them has gone through. When I tried to enter a different username, thinking maybe that was the problem, as soon as I re-typed it and clicked anywhere outside the name space, it'd revert to the name that was previously there. What the hell!?

I haven't even gotten to the problem I originally wanted to contact you about!

The downloads window no longer works. I download a file, I click on 'Downloads' to see how long it'll be, I see nothing. Plain, blank white. And yes, I know some files download so quickly they're gone before I can open the window. I'm talking about large several-megabyte videos and disk images. No indication that they're downloading at all.

All this has happened since 19.0 installed. Do I have to disable updates from now on to keep the browser working properly!?

Chosen solution

Well, I found out what was happening. Turns out it was a clash with an add-on after all:

http://update.downloadhelper.net/index.html?ts=1361662188

So that makes sense why it still persisted even after resetting and reinstalling. Sorry I wasted everyone's time, but I do appreciate your trying to find solutions.

Although I hope the problems I've had logging in and out of sites go away soon too.

Hi AlexReynard,
the super quick way to fix this is probably to reset Firefox. Details on how to do this: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
But it looks like you have a lot of add-ons that you use and resetting Firefox will remove these. You can also fix this by resetting the preference in the about:config page:

  • In the address bar, type about:config and press Enter.
  • The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click "I'll be careful, I promise!", to continue to the about:config page.
  • Search for browser.download.manager.retention
  • Change it's default value to 2

Hope that helped you! Please report back!

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Alco, that was sort of helpful.

I changed the default value to 2, and that at least made a download appear in the download window. However, if I close the window and reopen it, it's blank again. And it won't show more than one download going at once. AND I can't pause or cancel downloads.

I really don't want to reset Firefox, but I suppose I will if I have to.

Well maybe you will have to reset firefox but try a few more things before doing so. Check this article:
How to fix preferences that won't save
At the top it suggests to reset your firefox but there are some other possible solutions below.

Did a full reset. Was a big hassle, and it didn't fix anything. Downloads are still invisible if I close and reopen the download window. I can't pause or cancel downloads. Right-clicking on the download does nothing.

I performed a completely clean install. For the second time in as many days, I've had to reopen all my tabs and reset all my preferences. The only thing I carried over was my saved bookmarks. I even made to test the problem before reinstalling any add-ons.

My problem is worse than it was before.

I'd at least gotten it to the point where it would show a download. Now the download window is back to being completely blank. No download information is displayed at all.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.

Do you see the downloads in the Downloads folder in the Library (History > Show All History)?
