I was able to successfully download Download Helper from this address - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/; but when I tried downloading a video from You Tube it started the download but my computer crashed halfway through the download. Any ideas here please

_mig 5 years ago Video DownloadHelper is unlikely to be the problem here. This addon only takes care of detecting possible downloads and initiate them on request. During the actual download, no code of the addon is executed.
A good reason for the browser to crash during a download is if your hard disk has a damaged sector. When you download a file, at some point the system will try to write at the corrupted disk location, causing the crash.
You should run some disk verification/repait utility.

cor-el 5 years ago Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is otherwise interfering with downloading files.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.See:
