Do I have malicious software installed if I see text ads on the majority of websites I visit? When I block "akamaihd.net" using noscript the ads disappear.

The question pretty much sums it up.

The question pretty much sums it up.

Chosen solution

It's definitely "Coupon Companion". They have provided instructions on how to uninstall the extension here.

akamaihd.net is a content delivery network used by internet giants like Twitter and Facebook to speed up their services. It is possible that this extension also uses akamaihd.net to feed you their advertising, but permanently blocking akamaihd.net may result in other web pages viewing incorrectly.

hello dunnlr, i'm not sure but the "coupon companion" extension that you've installed might be adware - try to disable/remove it & see if the problem is persisting...

you could also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and do a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and/or a different tool like the free version of malwarebytes.

I followed all the above suggestions to rid the page of text pop ups, I'm still encountering assorted words with one underline which displays an ad pop up. The Pop up says it's from " Text Enhanced" I read up on this adware and was informed it was dangerous. I used the free version of Malwarebytes but it does not find the Text Enhanced program. A website on Text Enhance removal calls for a program called "Spy No More" but Windows 7 is not listed. Have you a solution?

hello jacobsjimmy1, this sort of adware usually comes bundled with dubious addons - so you could try to disable/remove addons you don't trust in firefox > addons > extensions or reset firefox.
