This version of Firefox has SO many problems it is unusable. Ads in EVERYTHING. Autofill not working, more.

Posted

First of all I am so tired of FF updating it's versions so often and every time they do something doesn't work. I changed to Google Chrome after using FF for YEARS and the current version, which seems to update on it's own and then you can't go back, has eliminated Autofill which I really relied on, and worse of all there are ADS in EVERYTHING and I don't know how to stop them. In Facebook for example there are big boxes of ads everywhere. Just today in my new blog post pieces of text were underlined that linked to ads. This does NOT happen in GC and it hurts the integrity of my long running blog and is an embarrassment. I hate this. I have never allowed paid ads and don't want them. In Google Chrome none of these ads show up anywhere, nor do they in Explorer, only in FF. There are other issues but I am worn OUT from new versions showing up every 5 minutes and then things you regularly use and count on don't work. Will somebody PLEASE tell me how to eliminate these ads???

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

I really appreciate this cor-el and I will try these but the thing is, why only on FF and no problems on Google Chrome or Explorer. Without exception every single problem I mentioned is only on Firefox.

Next, what in the world happened to Autofill? And why do they update so often rendering good apps unusable? The stability of FF is a real concern with so many constant changes....

Hello RevMotherMaitri, see the next add-ons, maybe you find something useful :

Adblock Plus (an excellent choice)

NoScript (maybe a little aggressive but it is just awesome)

thank you

Autofill should still be working, make sure you have it enabled. Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms

As for the new versions, we release versions every 6 weeks (incidentally, Chrome also releases new versions every few weeks). Make sure you are on the latest version of Firefox, 17.0.1, as it is naturally the most stable and secure.

I have gone back to FF 16 due to all the issues with FF 17 with Flash, crashing, etc., but your issues with Autofill and ads sounds like something else. I agree with others who suggest scanning your system for Malware.

Question owner

I have used several programs now to clean and remove anything and everything imaginable and as before there are NO problems on Google Chrome or Explorer, only on Firefox, so I uninstalled Firefox today and am having no problems whatsoever with the computer or other browsers. This is really perplexing to me because I have used and loved FF for years but anymore they keep updating and coming out with new versions so fast it makes your head spin and each one has more problems, not less.

I never wanted to use GC and I have never liked Explorer but with FF uninstalled there are no problems whatsoever. I have no idea why, but so it is... sigh...

And the "latest version" of FF IS the one I had and had so many problems with and autofill WAS enabled but the autofill I had been using for some time was simply gone. It has been a little pencil icon up on the left side in the tool bar and the most recent autofill had to be filled out through some -- to me -- complex form that you had to access in tools section and I could never even figure out how to use it. I've been online and created several websites and blogs so it's not that I have no computer experience but I remember way back using FF 3 and loving it and all of a sudden one day my computer took a big leap to another version way up the line for some unknown reason and FF as I had known it changed and then versions kept coming out faster and faster and things got worse and worse. Sometimes I think the axiom, "If it ain't broke don't fix it" should apply. I can't keep up with all the changes. Unless and until I know that FF is a stable platform I will not use it again and others have said the same thing in conversations the last few days. A LOT has changed with this latest version and the changes aren't good. Again for the zillionth time, the problems that existed do not exist at all on the other browsers, only Firefox. Very odd indeed...

Having the same problems, only worse. Every time I turn on my PC and try running Firefox it doesn't work. Either the program doesn't open or it opens and doesn't respond. Then I reinstall it and there are ads everywhere that make some sites unbrowsable. The next day it always updates automatically and I have to reinstall the program again. I hope they stop doing this, I don't like using Google Chrome, but Mozilla Firefox is completely unusable at the moment.

Firefox any version for any os from mozilla.org does not come with any sort of Ads. You may be infected and it may be targeting Firefox if it is your default web browser.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
