Synch deletes bookmark folders on my bookmark toolbar

I recently installed Firefox on my Android phone and enabled synch on Firefox on my Windows computer so I could share bookmarks between the two browsers. That part worked fine.

What I dislike is now folders and bookmarks are deleted from my bookmarks toolbar. The last time it happened, I saw it happen while I was using the browser. Fortunately, I have all my bookmarks backed up and was able to restore them, but this keeps happening about once per day.

I want Synch to back my bookmarks up, not delete them.
