Can I stop firefox from going to front/maxiumizing when clicking on a link in Thunderbird, used to do this in Linux ?

In Linux, before firefox 12, I could click on links in emails in Thunderbird, and they would open in new tabs, without maxiumizing , or having Firefox come in front . I could click on muliple links in emails and read all the emails I wanted, before I read the open tabs in firefox. Now I click on a link and firefox will be in my face, have to go back to thunderbird to read the rest of the email. If there is a solution for Linux and/or Windows, without downgrading to firefox 11, I would be thankful. Colin
