It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox. Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I have disabled the virus scan and all. It isn't the download that says is corrupt it is when trying to install.

-> Uninstall your current Firefox as described in this article -> Uninstall Firefox from your computer

  • DO NOT SELECT TO REMOVE USER DATA AND SETTINGS
  • Restart your system

-> Download latest Firefox 12 from the following link using some other Web Browser:

-> Install Firefox as described in this article -> How to install Firefox on Windows

Check and tell if its working.

Delete all earlier downloaded Firefox setup files. Re-Download Firefox 12 setup (DON'T RUN THE SETUP YET)

After your download of Firefox 12 is complete, Restart your Windows in Safe Mode

Now try to install Firefox using the setup file you downloaded before restarting your system.

Check and tell if its working.

Ok, try redownloading again, this time use Internet Explorer. Save the file to your desktop (don't click run). Make sure Firefox is closed. Once it is downloaded, double-click it, and try running it again. Do you have enough free space on your computer?

It also looks like you've got AVG and spybot search and destroy (you really only need anti-virus like AVG). If you kill them both does it work? Also make sure you apply any updates to windows before this and restart.

That error still means that something went wrong when downloading and saving the file to your computer, so you need to try again.

You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

don't work with them off either.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

There are other things that need your attention.

I notice that your plugins list shows that the Mozilla ActiveX plugin is installed.

  • Mozilla ActiveX control and plugin module

The Mozilla ActiveX plugin is not compatible with Firefox 2 versions and later and you should remove it.

For instructions on how to remove the Mozilla ActiveX plugin see:
