Firefox will randomly close with no obvious error message. This can be when clicking a link, changing tab, or even when the browser is unattended and not being used in any way. I have many, many, MANY more examples of submitted crash reports that I haven't provided and can do if necessary.

Hi Loonytoad, I'd suggest trying the steps suggested in this article: Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly)

If it still doesn't work, it would be very helpful to get the IDs of the crashes that you have submitted. Please follow the instructions here to let us know about your crash IDs: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox%20crashes#w_get-help-fixing-this-crash

Thanks!

there are already quite a few of them listed under more system details...

I've got crash IDs coming out of the wazoo so if you want any more then let me know, but I attached the most recent 5 to this ticket (see under System Details). I have worked through the article you have mentioned, but it's so unpredictable -- I can go a day or two with no crashes then have several in a couple of hours -- it's hard to pin down whether any of the steps help or not.

Sorry, didn't see the IDs.

It looks like you have a hardware acceleration issue. Could you try updating your graphics card drivers? If that doesn't solve the problem, you can try turning hardware acceleration off: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers#w_turning-off-hardware-acceleration

I'm on the latest nVidia drivers and it has done this across a whole range of drivers spanning back to September last year (I tend to update my graphics drivers pretty regularly). I'll try turning off hardware acceleration for a while to see if that helps, since that doesn't have a huge impact on my browsing but it would be nice to get a fix if there's a problem with all of the recent nVidia drivers...

Some crash reports look like memory corruption.

There is also a crash report with the Flash plugin, so you can try to update Flash to the latest version or uninstall and reinstall Flash or disable hardware acceleration in the Flash player.

You can find the latest Flash player for Firefox on this page.

You can try the 32 bit Flash version version because Firefox is a 32 bit application.

Did you try a new profile?

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

You can also try to uninstall and reinstall Firefox to see if that helps.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I had tried a new profile before and still received the crash, I have managed to reproduce the problem in a completely fresh profile here (the only option I changed was the do not track option):

I will try the uninstall/reinstall now.

Does it help if you set the javascript.options.mem.gc_per_compartment pref to false on the about:config page?
