Firefox crashes

more options

Hi

I hope someone can help.

I have a new PC. Unfortunately Firefox keeps crashing.

It tends to do it over and over about 10 times before it settles down.

I have tried all the obvious things and also tried restarting in safe mode but still crashes.

Can anyone help please?

Is this what you need?

any advice?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration and disables the JavaScript JIT compiler.

Try to disable the JIT compiler and set some jit prefs (Filter: jit) to false on the about:config to see if that helps.

  • javascript.options.methodjit.chrome
  • javascript.options.methodjit.content

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried running in safe mode and it still crashes.

I have also set the Jif prefs as described.

This did not work either.

Here is the last crash report if its any help.

Many thanks

Can anybody else help please?

Still getting lots of crashes and I have tried everything that has been suggested.

It will be a sad day if I have to go back to IE.

I have used Firefox for years now.

Thanks

Hello russ996,

Try clearing your Java cache, and History.

If you're not sure how to do that go here. --> I'm a Link.

If you still have problems, and are running a 64 bit processor you may want to install Waterfox instead of Firefox. On the case that you are running a 32 bit operating system do not install Waterfox. However, if you are running a 64 bit operating system you may want to install Waterfox. If you do install you will need to update your plugins on the Waterfox Download page below. I hope it helps, but I'm sorry if it leads you no where.

OK great thanks Michael.

I will try those.

Yes I am running 64 bit.

Have never heard of waterfox. Is that just the 64bit version of Firefox?

Thanks

Adrian

Yes, and at the same time a resounding no.

Waterfox is the modification of Firefox to be a 64 bit web browser. It's is not official but it is essentially just the 64 bit version of Firefox, but it can support the new 64 bit plugins from Java, Flash, and Silverlight. Waterfox will definitely power up your browser and support those plugins.

Now this is not and official version of Firefox so you really use it at your own risk. There will be bugs, I don't know if you will see them. But, do use Waterfox at your own risk.

I've been using it for a while now and I always recommend it as an alternative to IE.

I hope you will surf around with Waterfox in the future.

Sincerely,

Michael

I had this trouble with a new Windows 7 machine recently. If bigbuddy's solution doesn't work, try getting rid of the pre-loaded bloatware. Start by going to control panel and uninstalling Norton and a lot of that Windows Live crap in the task bar at the bottom of your screen.

First -- since it's NEW, I want to encourage you to go the the manufacturer's website and enter a chat session with tech support. They can help IMMENSELY.

Or, if you trust yourself (and me): Click on "Start" and type %temp% in the search bar and hit the enter button. The temporary folder screen will open up. These files are unnecessary and you usually delete them when doing routine disk maintenance with a defrag, etc. Hit "Ctrl-A" to select them all for deletion or single click individual files. Then hit "Shift-Delete" and click on "Yes".

Next: Hit "Windows key-R" and type prefetch into the run bar. Click "O.K" and then hit "Ctrl-A" to select all of the files. Shift-Del followed by clicking on OK deletes them all.

Next: Click on "Start" and type "cleanmgr" in the search bar and hit enter. Select "C: Drive", and click on "Ok" and wait for it to calculate the amount of space it can free up. Check all the boxes and click on "Ok" to clear the temp files, etc

If you think it may help, you can also clear the browser history by clicking the start button and typing inetcpl.cpl into the search bar. Click delete for the Browser History. It deletes on exit. I don't remember if this selection remains on so make sure you to deselect it later if you want to retain your searches.
