addons not syncing

I have been patiently waiting for v11 for Firefox Sync to include Add-ons.

Now that it is here, I have upgraded both my work and home laptops to include Add-ons in the sync.

As I use Xmarks to sync bookmarks & history, I just need firefox to sync add-ons, preferences and open tabs.

Open tabs sync fine. Hard to tell if preferences are syncing. Main problem is that my addons are not syncing at all. If I add a new Add-on to my work laptop, shouldn't it then sync & install on my home laptop?

Hoping someone may have an answer...

Hi!

That's strange. Have you wait enough time (20+ minutes the first time) in both computers?

Is the Add-on check box selected in both computers?

Add-on sync is turned off by default so maybe you just need to turn it on.

  1. Open the Options panel.
  2. In the Sync My section, check the box next to add-ons on each of your computers.

Thanks for the reply Verdi... Yes, I already had that option on. That is why I am confused why it noes not work.

Tried again turning on the Add-on sync & this time I left it to run overnight (previously I had only left it for a couple of hours).

Today it is syncing my add-ons.

I guess I was being impatient expecting it to sync the add-ons as quickly as changes to bookmarks (which seem to happen straight away). Looks like (at least the initial sync) add-on sync takes overnight.

Firefox Sync has removed most of my add-ons without warning. The Reset - Sync Options do not seem to function properly. It would be good if one could see the progress of the sync operation and confirmation that it had completed successfully. How is one to know when the Sync Now function will work on a subordinate computer?

For no apparent reason Firefox Sync removes the following 5 add-ons:

Add to Search Bar 2.0 Context Search 0.4.6 Duplicate in Tab Context Menu 0.0.1.7m LastPass 1.90.6 PlainOldFavorites 1.2

The removal can be undone. Any solution?

Hi there, I have similar problem as michael2310. I have 3 computers previously installed Firefox. The firefox sync worked good, until last few days I switched the Firefox on another computer from one sync account to my current firefox sync account. From then on, the firefox sync started a loop as below:

  1. 1. Once I start firefox on one computer, some of addons are uninstalled.
  2. 2. I installed the addons again, it worked fine
  3. 3. Until I started firefox on another computer. It starts to uninstall some of the addons again. This behavior loops and seems never come to an end.

Everytime I close firefox, I must be carrful to check if there is some addons going to be uninstall, and undo them. Otherwise, I have to re-install.

Thanks to related comments here and in already filed bugs on add-on sync failure, we were able to discover that Reset of Sync is causing add-ons to be removed. Until https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=792990 is fixed, I recommend you avoid Reset and do the following:

1) choose one client as your Master.
2) unlink all other devices from your sync account.
3) Get your master client up to speed with all add-ons you want on it.
4) On the Master client, Use Tools > Sync Now to ensure everything is up to date in the cloud.
5) Then, one at a time, add your other clients back to your Sync account.
6) Sync Now on each of those clients to ensure all data is downloaded.
