The Google toolbar was discontinued by Google around the time that Firefox 4 was released. The following link goes to a support article from the Mozilla knowledge base that details some alternatives - Google Toolbar is no longer compatible with Firefox - Here are some alternatives

Google in previous toolbar versions released Firefox compatible versions, Google no longer supports Firefox as a compatible version for the toolbar, only Chrome & Internet Explorer are supported. Even if you downgraded your Firefox version it wouldn't matter as the latest toolbar version doesn't support FF.

From Google Toolbar Installation Page

Google Toolbar is only available for Internet Explorer.

Yes I understand that Google has dis-continued its support on Firefox. And there are alternatives to Google Toolbar such as various translation add-ons. But nothing beats to have the toolbar on your browser where everything is just a click away.

So far, I have tried installing the toolbar via installing add-on from file, but firefox rejects it. Anymore ideas to force install into the browser?

Believe me I know exactly what you mean. I use many Google services, and having the toolbar made everything much easier & integrated not to mention organized in one area for easy quick access. You are in luck however because you can make it work with a little tweaking according to the following webmaster & coder, complete with detailed step by step instructions. Check out the following link and let me know if it worked for you & if you are or aren't having any problems with it.

Dear Dbellca82, Thanks for the link. But the only problem I have now is just to install in the toolbar into Firefox which Firefox keeps rejecting it. No matter what method I try and use, Firefox will not complete the installation of the Google Toolbar because it is not compatiable with this version.

Any more ideas to install the toolbar rather than enabling it?

Ok, so since the toolbar is not compatible with Firefox 5.0 and up, you can install the supported 3.6 version, install the toolbar to get it installed & then update to the latest version. It will seems to disappear but if you note from the site I provided earlier the next step is to access your FF profile to locate the install file, once found basically its just modifying it to accept max version of 11 or 12 whichever rather than previously set 4, thus making it compatible with 11.

The steps are basically as follows then.

1. Uninstall your current FF version & install 3.6

2. Install the toolbar from Google through FF (it should read or detect as compatible when you visit site as you will be on 3.6)

3. Update FF to latest version

Now just follow the steps in order as listed on the site. I posted the link again below.

Ah, well that was what I wanted to do initially, but I was afraid it would erase all my personal favourite sites and many other data. Perhaps for the sake of that wonderful yet troublesome toolbar, it might be all worth it.

Don't just worry, make a backup.

See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
