Copy and paste doesn't work in firefox anymore. Doesn't work in safe mode either.

I am just wondering what can i do to fix this. In most cases I can highlight something and select copy in the context menu, but when I try to paste it nothing happens, and if I try to paste it again both copy and paste are greyed out. I thought maybe it was an add on causing it so I ran FF in safe mode and still it does this. Could this be something with my profile? I never had profile issues before Mozilla started to update the browser at this fast pace. Originally, when FF 4 came out, I had a profile corruption in that version so I reverted to 3. If this fast pace release schedule is only going to continually corrupt my profile, I will either go back to version 3 or just switch to another browser altogether. I do not wish to trade stability for innovation. Before the fast pace release schedule, FF was like a rock. Now it seems to be more trouble than it is worth. I could be just jumping to conclusions, but I didn't have these problems back when it didn't get new releases this quickly. I already replaced FF on my android because it didn't work right, but since I have used it on my pc this long, I have been more than patient that the newer versions could be great over time, but it seems to be one thing after another that has problems. Basically, I am tired of having to try to fix problems with this browser that shouldn't and wouldn't exist if it weren't for innovation speed. It should just work in it's final release, but more than not it has some issues. Firefox is definitely not the browser it once was, and at the most I am greatly disappointed in the newer versions since version 3. basically, FF is going to have to be more stable to keep me as a desktop user. I have already written it off on my android device. Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I really hope my problem is easy to resolve and hopefully something I have overlooked. Thanks for your time whoever answers this.

After digging in deeper, I found that this problem occurred in other things as well, but seemed to be worse in FF for some reason. With other things like trying to copy and paste in IE or windows explorer, sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't. After scouring windows support forums and taking in some suggestions there, most people seemed to think it could have been some malware or a virus. I scanned the system thoroughly with several programs and found nothing. In all my efforts, I was not able to pinpoint why this was happening. I didn't make any system images previously and just wanted copy and paste to work again so I backed up my data and did a fresh install of Windows 7. So far all is back to normal now. I just wish I knew what caused it to happen. At this point I don't think Firefox was to blame in my case. It was my bad to assume that Firefox caused it because that is the first place I saw it occur and I spend more time using FF than other things on my pc.

I do appreciate your response cor-el. Unfortunately nothing in that article was able to help resolve the problem, so I will make some backups and do a fresh install with a new profile to see if that helps.

Paste was not working for me just now. I tried pasting first into notepad and then copying from notepad and pasting in firefox. This worked. Of course notepad removes anything that is not pure text (including all formatting).
