New version of Firefox has not over written old version. Still opens old version of Firefox.

Wordpress told me to install a newer version of Firefox. I installed Firefox 9.0.1 and can run it from the terminal but when I close all browsing windows and open a new window from the applications menu, it opens a version 3.6.24 browser. How do I make version 9.0.1 the default?
