I need to upgrade to the newest Firefox - I've tried, but get the popup that I've listed in the question. What privileges are they? This is my computer, not networked with anything else. I should have ALL privileges. Thank you for your prompt help with getting my Firefox upgraded.

I have the same problem. I ran a virus, etc. checker and removed 14 of the buggers (so much for the virus free theory of Macs). Rebooted, tried again and no luck. I was able to run the updates of MS office though just a few minutes ago so it appears to be targeted at Firefox and not a problem in general. I posted a similar question just a few minutes ago. If we are lucky maybe it is a bug in the program. If I/we are less lucky maybe it isn't compatible with older system software and we will be forced to upgrade. My system is older 10.5.8 even though my computer is newer (unibody macbook pro)

Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
