I'm getting the following message:

"The proxy server is refusing connections"

I did go into the Tool/Options/Network/Setting and change it, but everytime I restart Firefox, it doesn't remember the settings.

I'm getting the following message: "The proxy server is refusing connections" I did go into the Tool/Options/Network/Setting and change it, but everytime I restart Firefox, it doesn't remember the settings.

Chosen solution

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I tried that, but I have no clue as to what I'm looking at.

I can't tell if there is or isn't a conflict.

Does it work if you start Firefox in Save mode?

In Firefox 4+ you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

Let me repeat:

I tried that, but I have no clue as to what I'm looking at.

I can't tell if there is or isn't a conflict.

I need a HUMAN to walk me through this.

Give me a phone number so someone can.

I've tried the live support, but no one knows how to read a clock there. It says it closes at 4PM PST, but it's 4:46 EST

Does the network setting still change from no proxy if you restart Firefox in safe mode?

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

No, the network setting DO NOT change in Safe Mode.

I tried that, but I have no clue as to what I'm looking at.

Are you kidding me? That's not help.

I'll say it again, I can't tell if there is or isn't a conflict.

Is there a reason I can't get an answer to the above???
