Unicode special characters appear differently in Firefox vs. Chrome/IE

all the special characters such as heats, music notes, and all other special characters are not displaying properly in Firefox... in all other web browsers all the special characters look nice, but in Firefox they not only look smaller, but they are a lot uglier too... how can I get them to look proper here is an example...
