My firefox hangs and a "not responding" window appears, I've reinstalled and even updated firefox, and the problem still exists... what can I do?

For a month or so , I start using firefox and after a few minutes or just out of the blue it gets stuck, and a "not responding" window (or next to the website name) appears, I've reinstalled, and updated firefox and the problem still exists. No crash report window appears, ocasionally I just get the "restore" previous tabs windows and that's pretty much it. It gets me quite frustrated, someone can tell me what to do?
