why has Firefox blocked lxdxcoms.exe and lxdxwbgw.exe which are necessary for printer to communicate with computer

Posted

After last (recent) update of Firefox, my printer Lexmark X4650 stopped communicating with the computer and the help service informs me that access is needed to the 2 aforementioned items in order for me to printe saved files. They are lxdxcoms.exe and lxdxwbgw.exe. Please unblock these files so that I can use my otherwise perfectly functioning printer.

Repeatedly the helper mentioned closing the error message on the screen - what did that error message say?

Did it mention missing DLL files, or DLL files that couldn't be found?

At the end of the last help session this was brought up:

Q: Which Anti-Virus/Security software program is installed on your computer?
A: McAfee Internet Security Suite
Q: Open McAfee Internet Security Suite.

If that is the conclusion from Lexmark help, it doesn't have to do with Firefox - it's a McAfee thing.

Question owner

I don't have McAfee, I have AVG and Spyware Doctor. I am technocrap, but not unintelligent. However I am in need of help. Error message reads:- Communication not available

Try these solutions

Ensure the printer is powered on Disconnect and reconnect the printer's power cable Disconnect and reconnect the usb cable Check your powerwall settings to ensure printer is not blocked Restart your computer

I have done all these things several times - please view log posted with question. would unistalling Lexmark and reinstalling solve the problem?

I read the entire log you posted in More system details, I copy'n'pasted that segment from near the end it.

I am don't see where Firefox was even mentioned in that "chat". Looks like a problem with printer software or your firewall (which I don't believe being that you are using a USB connection to that printer, but I'm not an expert on Lexmark printer support).

Does that printer work with any program on that PC?
Or is the problem just with Firefox?

edit - one last thing. Have you restarted that PC since doing what Lexmark support advised?

Question owner

Well there you go, said I was technocrap as I thought Firefox was a firewall. It would appear that after doing a search on all files and folders I do have McAfee. My Lexmark is USB connected although it is a WIFI printer Lexmark suggests the USB connection is more reliable.

Found this :- Firewallfilesblocked C:\Program Files\Lexmark 3600-4600 Series\Diagnostics\Scripts Size: 2kb Type: XML Document Date Modified: 4/24/2009 7.49am This was the only thing mentioning Lexmark. Should I do another search?

Question owner

Oh sorry, I have re-started the computer at least 10 times and I turn it off every night
