When I start the program two copies appear instead of the one I would like. The 2nd one doesn't have my tabs but does have bookmarks. I'd like to have one copy come up.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

If you can't find a file sessionstore.js , but you see a file sessionstore then Windows may be hiding the .js file extension.
You can check the file type via the properties (right-click context menu)of the file.

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.

I can't find the things you suggest. I guess I'll just go on having two copies. Thanks very much. Sandra

Did you check the file extension of all sessionstore files in the Firefox Profile Folder?

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Is the one without the file extension a JS (JavaScript or JScript) file?

If that is the case then delete that file.

If I remove sessionstore files they come back when I reboot. Cannot find hidden files. Nothing I try works. Once again thanks for trying.

Yes, Firefox will create new files if you start a new session.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
