my bookmarks and Yahoo homepage have disappeared - all I have is a screen advising me to upgrade from firfox 2 to firefox 6 but whenever I try to download ffx 6 there is no change

I am using Acer Aspire 1 with Linux and firefox 2.00.00.14. When I switched the machine on yesterday the Yahoo Home Page was replaced by a reminder from firefox to update to ffx 6. My bookmark toolbar showed empty and no matter what I do I can't bookmark any pages or install Yahoo as my Home Page.

I have attempted to download FFX6 from the screen on several occasions but seemingly without success. On one occasion I had an error message that said it could not be installed. Help, please. Neil
