There has always been a "history" that, after typing a few letters it offers item to click on. This no longer happens. On web sites I have requested to remember user name and password, it no longer remembers, requiring me to re-enter each time I log in.

Passwords have nothing to do with Bookmarks. A bookmarked web page may be a logon page for a web site and need a password, but there is no "linkage" within Firefox between the two.

Any "history" that you see after typing a few letters might be from "form history" and not saved passwords. The best way to tell the difference is to click or double-click in an empty Username field on a logon page. You should get a drop-down of the available saved Usernames for the passwords which you saved for that website, if you saved more than one Username/Password for that domain. Otherwise, click on the only Username which appears.

"Remember Me" for automatic website login is usually saved in a cookie for each website.

Try clearing your Cookies for the affected websites.
Tools > Options -> Privacy - Cookies = Show Cookies button
Enter the domain in the Search bar at the top and all the Cookies for that URL will appear. Unless you can figure out which Cookie is for "remember me", you'll need to delete them all.

Hold the {Ctrl} key while you click on each Cookie in the small window. When that list is all highlighted, click the Remove Cookie button in the lower left. When you are done click Close.

Or you can right-click the page, choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies" and delete them there, for each different website as you get to it.
