Why won't my firefox start after it updated to the new version yesterday?

I have a PC laptop (Vista) and have used Firefox for a long time. Yesterday there was an automatic update. Today, I can't open Firefox: when I click on it nothing happens at all. (I'm currently using IE to contact you.) I have tried restarting the computer, and I looked for Firefox.exe in the processes list, but it isn't there. Nothing happens when I click on Firefox. I'm not sure what else to try.

Problem solved when I inadvertently reloaded ver. 6. I did not uninstall previous version, and I somehow ended up at ver 2.0! Managed to delete that and eventually ended up at a working broswer -though not entirely sure what happened. (It also asked me to update Flash, which I had just done yesterday...)

I thought I had lost the bookmarks, but using the import bookmarks button, I could use the ones from several days ago.
